  • 🚨 The NHS is facing a crisis—a mental health crisis of its workforce. Today we’re launching Every Minute of Every Day, an urgent fundraising appeal to support healthcare workers struggling with their mental health. With the NHS under more pressure than ever this Winter, doctors, nurses, midwives, and all healthcare workers face burnout, moral distress, and exhaustion. Your donation will help us fund our Weekly Support Groups—a safe space for healthcare professionals to talk, heal, and find hope. 💙 Our goal is to reach £50,000, which will fund the running of this group for an entire year. Together, we can care for those who care for us. https://lnkd.in/d5waTyXf #EveryMinuteOfEveryDay #HealthcareWorkers #MentalHealth #NHSWorkers #SuicidePrevention #charityappeal #fundraisingappeal

This last week I’ve been floored by the flu 🤒 It’s been a real struggle to keep things running smoothly for the girls. I worry about the potential impact of a longer term illness and the help I could need. I’m particularly paranoid about bugs and viruses because I once ended up with full blown pneumonia. I was hospitalised and it took me months to recover while Steve was here, taking care of our children and our home. Seeing the critical incidents announced by our local hospital and countless others around the country fills me with fear. I think about the many times me or my girls have needed medical help and the doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, GPs and everyone else involved in our care over the years have been incredible. I’m not sure they have the capacity to be incredible right now. And that frightens me. It frightens them too. And it takes its toll on their mental health. It’s one of the reasons I’m a supporter and ambassador for Doctors in Distress - it’s my two year anniversary today. To help address the inevitable fallout of this winter crisis, the charity has launched Every Minute of Every Day - an urgent fundraising appeal to support healthcare workers struggling with their mental health. Donations will help fund Weekly Support Groups - safe spaces for healthcare professionals to talk, heal, and find hope ❤️🩹 The goal is to reach £50,000, which will fund the running of this group for an entire year and if you’re able to contribute, even in a small way, please consider doing so here >>> https://lnkd.in/d5waTyXf Let’s take care of the people that take care of us. • “We are sinking” These are the words of one senior doctor but are echoed by healthcare workers across the country as the winter crisis in the NHS worsens. Staff are overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of patients in hospitals right now, burnt out by relentless shifts and dread coming into work. They are not OK and they need our help. We run a free, confidential, online Weekly Support Group where any healthcare worker can log on for an hour and share their struggles, process their trauma and gain support from others in similar situations. We desperately need the funds to run this group so urge you today to please make a donation to our urgent appeal, Every Minute Of Every Day. By supporting the mental health of healthcare staff today, we can ensure they are there for us when we might need them tomorrow. https://lnkd.in/d5waTyXf #mentalhealth #healthcare #nhs #wintercrisis #nhswinter #smallcharity

  • Today we are proud to announce that two of our Trustees, Dr Chaand Nagpaul and Dr Jonathan Osborn, have been appointed co-chairs of Doctors in Distress. Our interim Chair, Darren Cockburn, has stepped down from the role after 17 months and will remain as Treasurer. We would like to thank him for all his hard work during his tenure. Chaand and Jonathan bring a wealth of experience to the role and a passion for supporting the wellbeing of healthcare staff. Chaand, a GP partner in North London and former chair of the British Medical Association, said: “I am delighted to be appointed co-chair of Doctors in Distress. This laudable and important charity has done vital work to protect and support the mental health of NHS staff who give so much of themselves in caring for others often under extreme pressure. Both myself and Jonathan look forward to working together to drive the charity forward and create a lasting impact in improving the wellbeing of all those who work in our health service.” Jonathan, a GP, Associate Caldicott Guardian in the National Medical Directorate at NHS England, and Chartered Director at Institute of Directors, said: “Becoming the co-chair of Doctors in Distress is an honour, and I’m excited to work with Chaand to support the growth of this charity and help even more healthcare professionals to remain well, doing they job that they love.” #Trustees #charitychair #mentalhealth #nhs #mentalhealthcharity #chartereddirector #instituteofdirectors #leadershipdevelopment British Medical Association NHS England Institute of Directors (IoD) RCGP North West England Faculty Chaand Nagpaul Susannah Basile Darren Cockburn Dr Jonathan Osborn CDir Amandip Sidhu

  • The Winter crisis is gripping the NHS. Many hospitals across the country have declared critical incidents, waiting times are astronomical, patients are having to be treated on trolleys in corridors, and flu cases have quadrupled. With the current cold snap, there are worries that things are only going to get worse. This week the Government announced plans to tackle waiting lists but there have been concerns about having enough staff to achieve these goals. Our charity's focus is on protecting those healthcare workers at the heart of all this. The ones working around the clock, every minute of every day, becoming exhausted, covering for sick colleagues, feeling overwhelmed. This is why we launched our campaign, Every Minute Of Every Day, to raise funds for our Weekly Support Group. This is a free, confidential service where any healthcare worker can go and share their struggles with peers. Our appeal aims to raise £50,000 so we can fund this group for an entire year. Please support our appeal today and share this post to raise awareness. https://lnkd.in/d5waTyXf Thank you. 💙 #mentalhealth #nhs #healthcarestaff Amandip Sidhu Susannah Basile Chaand Nagpaul Dr Jonathan Osborn CDir

  • Our amazing Ambassador Dr Ed Hutchison has finished his year-long fundraiser for us where he ran at least 5km every single day! He has been slowly upping his distances over the last few months and ended the year with a marathon through the Bristol area. He even stopped halfway through to speak to BBC Radio Bristol live on air to boost donations and raise awareness. What a legend. Ed Hutchison became a doctor in 2017, however after facing anxiety, he decided to quit full-time medicine. He now works at a digital health company for four days a week but maintains his clinical work with weekly shifts at his local hospital. In total this year Ed has run an amazing 2970 kilometres, raising an incredible £8K. We are beyond grateful and proud! He is so close to his £10,000 target so if you’d like to support him, visit his Just Giving page https://lnkd.in/eTT8VatX? We appreciate your support 👌 Ed Hutchison

This Winter is expected to be the worst one on record for the NHS. The impact on our healthcare workers could be catastrophic as the pressure of working in such an environment takes it toll physically and mentally. Let's do what we can to support those who are there for us when we need it most by collectively raising the £50K needed to fund the Doctors in Distress Weekly Support Group for a year. ‼️ We are facing an emergency. And stopping healthcare workers from reaching crisis point is something I wholeheartedly support (as does my daughter Ada who made this video to demonstrate her solidarity.) Your donation can make a direct and life-changing impact. Together, we can ensure that no one suffers in silence and that every healthcare professional receives the support they deserve. Please donate what you can here >>> https://lnkd.in/e4qHjE7c

❄️ This Winter, let’s take care of those who take care of us. Healthcare workers sacrifice so much to keep us safe. Many face burnout, moral distress, and some see no way out except to take their own lives. 💙 By donating to our Every Minute of Every Day appeal, you can support their mental health through our Weekly Support Groups—running even on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. https://lnkd.in/d5waTyXf #EveryMinuteOfEveryDay #MentalHealthSupport #NHSWorkers
