Mayor unveils revamped Corn Exchange building following £5m regeneration. Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones today officially unveiled the Corn Exchange building at Doncaster Market, following the completion of a £5m Government-funded revamp. Works to the historic Grade II Listed building have included a whole host of vital repair and restoration works, including repairs to the roof, improvements to the drainage, as well as heritage restoration to the windows and stonework. A range of new features have also been added. These include a new staircase, new lighting including LED feature lighting, improved heating, new accessible toilets, new fire doors and a new ventilation system. In addition to this, a brand-new gallery flooring and ten new retail units have been added, as well as improved access around the entirety of the building. The Corn Exchange will officially open for retail in Spring 2025. The first event will take place on 30th November, with Mother Hooker’s Festive Winter Market taking place in the building from 9am-4pm. Elmer the Patchwork Elephant and his friends are packing their trunks for new adventures in Doncaster on 13 November to mark World Kindness Day...and not only that, they'll be staying with us until the end of January. Elmer’s Christmas Art Parade, based on the books by David McKee, will see 12 elephants bringing oodles of kindness, colour and festive cheer as part of this year’s sculpture trail. City of Doncaster Council is working with Wild in Art, creative producers of public art events and Andersen Press, publishers of the Elmer books, to bring the stunning sculptures to Doncaster. Six of the sculptures will feature new designs unveiled for the first time in the city. The arrival of the Elmer’s Christmas Art Parade on World Kindness Day is also poignant as the story promotes kind acts, friendship and inclusivity, key themes of Doncaster’s Choose Kindness movement which will be sponsoring Elmer.
