  • 💬 We asked members of the local community: What does Cruachan Power Station mean to you? Having been a part of the landscape for almost 60 years, playing a key role in the UK’s energy system, supporting jobs and education, and helping the UK on its journey to #NetZero, Cruachan Power Station means a lot to the community. 👥 With our plans to build a second underground pumped storage hydro plant at Cruachan, we will continue supporting our communities for generations to come. ⚡

We’re supporting #skills development amongst young people with our brand-new virtual work experience and immersive skills bootcamp - both focussed on carbon capture and storage (#CCS). 🤝 👥 💻 In the UK, we’re collaborating with Springpod, an award-winning careers exploration platform, to launch our first-ever Project Sprint, which gives students a virtual experience of working as a Process Engineer as part of our #BECCS project. 💭 Plus, we’re offering our employees at Drax Power Station the chance to upskill their CCS knowledge through an in-depth bootcamp in partnership with Selby College. These initiatives are part of our efforts to equip young people with the expertise they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving energy industry and help tackle climate change through innovative carbon capture solutions, like BECCS. ⚡

  • Biomass continues to provide the UK with secure, dispatchable energy, playing a vital role in keeping the lights on when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow. 💡 🌿 Data from Drax #ElectricInsights shows that yesterday, biomass supplied more than 9% of Britain’s electricity. ⚡ Find out more via the link in comments.

  • 🗓️ As we approach the end of the year, we’re reflecting on some key moments that have shaped our journey. ⚡ One particular highlight was our #CruachanExpansion Project event in September - we welcomed over 100 businesses, prospective suppliers and local communities to Oban, Scotland, where they learnt more about the wider benefits the Cruachan Expansion Project will deliver across the UK. 🤝 The project involves a new 600MW underground pumped storage hydro power station being built at Cruachan, which will more than double the sites’ electricity generating capacity. Plus, during the construction phase, it is expected to support around 1,100 UK jobs and contribute a potential £470m to the economy. 👥

  • Ten of our apprentices have been recognised for their exceptional work at the Drax Group #Apprentice Awards, where we were proud to honour their valuable contributions to our UK operations. 🏆 Oliver Feeney, winner of the Graduate Apprentice of the Year award for his contributions at Drax Power Station, said: “I am very proud to have won the award and to see that all my work has being appreciated during the first year of my apprenticeship. I look forward to continuing my development in both the academic and professional aspects of my apprenticeship in the next couple of years.” 💬 A huge congratulations to all of our apprentices for their hard work this year! 🤝 ➡️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/e_i5kK3p
