Members of our team from across Dundee Heritage Trust enjoyed a dry dock tour of RRS Discovery this morning, led by Ali Gellatly, Director of Ship & Facilities. The tour revolved around updates on the major conservation works being undertaken by JPS Restoration; sharing progress of caulking the deck, reinforcing the stern, and the use of a temporary yellow support structure across the stern. Yesterday, Shackleton Technologies had the privilege of joining Dundee Heritage Trust, their partners, communities, and visitors from around the globe to honour the remarkable achievements of Sir Ernest Shackleton. The highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of The Hope Cross, a memorial originally erected in South Georgia by crew members in tribute to “The Boss” (Shackleton). Thanks to Dundee Heritage Trust and their partners, this historic piece can now be admired at Discovery Point in #Dundee. Through our close collaboration with Dundee Heritage Trust, Shackleton Technologies was fortunate to contribute to this incredible event and was honoured to support the rededication meal for the surviving relatives of past crew members and Sir Ernest Shackleton, represented by his granddaughter, The Honourable Alexandra Shackleton. It was a joy to be part of this event. The stories shared and the pride felt were truly special. We’ll share more of the day soon. From today, visitors from across the globe will be able to pay their respects to “The Boss” as the Hope Cross is now on display at its new home at Discovery Point. This poignant display was unveiled by The Honourable Alexandra Shackleton, granddaughter of Sir Ernest Shackleton, in a private rededication hosted by Dundee Heritage Trust Chairman David Henry on Monday 14th October. Huge thanks to our event sponsors, Donna McHugh & Raymond McErlaine from Loganair Limited and Shackleton Technologies for their support in marking this incredible occasion. Yesterday was a day of education for me. It was fascinating to visit Scotland’s Jute Museum @ Verdant Works and Dundee Heritage Trust for the finalists visit for the Leisure, Hospitality and Tourism category at The Courier Business Awards along with Bradley Johnston from Henderson Loggie I didn't have a proper understanding of just what impact Dundee's Jute industry had on the region and left properly informed. The whole venue has been restored and planned meticulously over the years which is why it is a 5 star Visit Scotland visitor attraction. Hearing about the new rebrand to Verdant Works Museum : The Fabric of Dundee and the plans for the future was impressive. Thank you to Julie Cumming and the team for a warm welcome and a very detailed explanation of each part of the venue. All the best for the awards.
