Dundee Bairns

Registered Charity - SCO 47425 Dundee Bairns is a non-profit organisation concerned with alleviating the effects of poverty, particularly for children, within the City of Dundee. The charity was founded by the former Chief Executive of Dundee City Council, David Dorward. Who acts as the Executive Director of the charity. From 2016 to the present the Charity has been running a "Fun and Food Programme" during the school holidays in a bid to tackle "Holiday Hunger". To date, this project has worked with over 100 community projects around the city. These projects are located in areas of high multiple deprivation within Dundee City, where high percentages of children are in receipt of free school meals. The programme provides groups with free cold nutritious breakfasts and lunches as well as financial support to enrich the activates provided for the children. Our feedback and research have shown the long- term benefit of the programme to increase the educational attainment and wellbeing of the participating children. As Dundee Bairns is a new charity, being officially constituted in May 2017. There are future plans for the charity to develop new projects/programmes, all focused on reducing societal inequalities and increasing social cohesion. We promote cross sector partnerships in all of our project/ programme developments. Currently, we are working with Tayside Contracts, Dundee City Council, Abertay University and Higher Education Institutions across the city. To achieve wide-reaching improvements to the quality of life for many across the city. As well as contributing to research on the cause and effects of Poverty, to find the best solutions.
