RSPB GELTSDALE NATURALISATION
Super and informative film of the excellent work completed by the RSPB at Geltsdale transforming a 1.5 m wide straight farm ditch into a wetland mosaic.
Even the smallest of flows can transform a landscape...

It’s been wet in the Lakes today…. But, it’s given our recent restoration projects a great chance to do some work!
Barrow beck was liberated from its confines a month ago. We removed a short section of embankment to activate the historic alluvial fan which enters Derwent Water. I think we can now consider it activated!
We also installed a raised boardwalk, meaning this popular route can be accessed in all weathers without impacting the river.
A month ago there was no path and no water. The channel was held within embankments and historically dredged, and people had to walk through the lake margins when water levels were high.
Now a dynamic system, governed by its own processes, with wonderful access infrastructure, allowing everyone to enjoy what nature has to offer when set free.

S̶i̶x̶e̶s̶, boundaries, and brilliant charity! 🏏. ☀️ The sun shone on our 2nd annual charity cricket match at Cockermouth. It was a huge success! 🏆 Thanks to everyone who came out to support, played, and cheered us on. Together, we raised an incredible £300 for WaterAid! Let's keep the good work going! #cricketforacause#charitymatch#wateraid#community#givingback
These superb post-construction and system response images are of the excellent restoration project on the River Witham at Manthorpe. They illustrate perfectly how the ecology has rapidly responded to lowland system naturalisation.
