I saw a post last week which was essentially about how small incremental changes can lead to big change. Apart from the fact that I couldn't agree more, I wanted to provide some wider context in terms of how we can use this as a #modelforchange I always talk to clients about 'foundational HR' - in brief, we can talk about as much strategy and all the cool HR stuff as we like, but if it's not secured on a solid foundation of good practice then the cool stuff won't stick......it just won't. This week, I have started communicating (globally) to the business I'm working with. It's all basic stuff and is founded in utilising the HRIS HiBob, creating #automation and #efficiency, whilst providing a more #selfservice style approach to the basics of HR. All in all, offering a more sophisticated #employeexperience. It's not difficult to do, it just requires drip feeding some gentle change management (with regular communication) to move the business to adoption of process and good data management. The rest will come! This is 'sweating the small stuff' and in some cases, it's absolutely the right thing to do. When the small actions add up, change will happen - it doesn't need to be complicated or hard it just needs to be well communicated, well explained and well planned, along with a clearly defined outcome. For those who are further intrigued - take a read of 'Sweat the small stuff' by Chris Hadfield.......it's brilliant! #changemanagement #smallchange #communication #HR #HRconsulting Elinor Brett, FCIPD Zoë Browse - Assoc CIPD 🚀Andie Fine Shannen Senewiratna, Assoc CIPD April Gunn Dylan Roberts Sarah Hardy Miriam Kerbache

“I’m seeing things change” “Things are starting to get pushed through” Two statements made by colleagues in the #peopleteam at CUBE towards the end of this week. This is the best feedback we get as #consultants…..and it’s even better when the #team are seeing and experiencing it. I’m 4 weeks in as the #interimCPO and we are beginning to rock and roll and the team can clearly see the benefits. It’s my normal approach (alongside a specific delivery) of strengthening the #hrfoundation. It’s fast and furious but we are making superb progress - well done team 😇 Elinor Brett, FCIPD #hrconsulting #interim. I’m away on holiday and reflecting on my time off over the summer……except, I’ve not really stopped! Life in general is pretty busy and needs must……..but, it’s time to read this little book, given to me by the lovely Janice Donaghue. During my last #interimassignment, I regularly asked the team to ‘stop and take a breath’! However, applying one’s own advice is never easy……and I’m still #learning and #trying. I’m on page 9, am utterly #curious and hooked!! Thanks you Janice - I’ll tell you when I’ve finished and have found my inner ‘om’ . Tagging the team so they know I’m also still working on this one and regardless of experience, everyday is a school day 👩🎓 James Magee, Sinéad L., Vicki S., Naomi L., Naomi Gil, Fatima Kassir, Adrianna Bakker, Camille BELLOIR, Elinor Brett, FCIPD, Ann S. I've had a good break over the summer (with just a little bit of project work), but it's probably time for me to get back to it properly. I've been tinkering with my website and updated it with some examples of completed projects to showcase the variety of work I undertake - do take a look if you are interested or need help https://lnkd.in/e_d-SGtN I flex to what clients need and am happy to do #project work or #interim work and I love a bit of #systems work so if you have any implementation requirements, let me know! Tagging a heap of people I've worked with before - please share on if you know anyone that may need me......and thanks 🤩 ! Elinor Brett, FCIPD David Brett Sabby G. Nick Gilhespie Emily W. Ohhhhh - new project, new #HRIS I really do love a bit of systems work (I’m as surprised as anyone else that knows me!) but having lead a couple of major #implementations and working inside clients systems, I really enjoy being able to streamline and digitise #HRprocesses and manage #data in a logical manner……the opportunities are endless! Bring it on Employment Hero ……I’m liking what I see so far and even managed to import base data in about 10 mins 🤩 Thank you Jason Greasley for letting me at your new system for The Lead Gen Specialists …….now let’s see what it can do……ahem, along with all the other work I promised! This is what a break can do! After my last major contract I promised myself some time off. I didn't strictly stop working, I had a couple of #clientcommitments but I have taken a bit of a step back over the summer. Having time to think has made me realise a lots of things - My brain is very busy - ALL the time - Rest is something I don't know how to do well, or consistently - I've worked like a nutter since my Mum got sick......and never really stopped to consider my own needs - My own hobbies have gone out of the window - I 'attract' things to do because I care too much and I don't know how to say no - I've been exhausted for a long time - Breathe.........yes Janice Donaghue & Vicki S. and the team at Dext will laugh at this one........ As I often say 'step back and take a breath'....well, this time I actually applied it to myself. #Result! So - with time to really #reflect and take a bit of control I decided it was time to sit on my horse (Paddy) again. I retired him 3 years ago because he's old and arthritic, covid hit, my Mum died and I simply thought it was the right thing to do for him at the time. I only intended to 'sit' on him, but he loved it as much as I did.......who knew at the age of 25 and 3 years retired he would be so keen to have a good canter, but we did. Just me and him and the amazing bond we share.......no saddle required (which is a good job because I sold them years ago!) I don't mind admitting I cried with joy 😍 So - why am I sharing this? - The power of some time out is a gift - The ability to switch off my busy brain still needs work and attention - but at least I'm #consciouslyincompetent! - I should have taken a break sooner - I was born to work - but I need to balance it more with the things I like to do outside of work. So Paddy is going to do some very light work, once a week to keep us both doing what we love and being together in our brilliant and private little partnership, whilst getting me more fresh air and exercise, doing 'me' as well as being there for everyone else AND taking a breath and enjoying ourselves. Tagging a few colleagues who might enjoy seeing this..... When #Clients collide (in a good way!) I called a colleague this week, the incredibly efficient Natalie Sinton, chasing a bit of data for a project. The conversation went like this...... Me - I'm after a bit of data Nat.......just a payroll number. Nat - oh sure Eli, but I'm just uploading some stuff to Dext, can I get back to you Me - oh, you use Dext, how cool is that.....I just did an #interimCPO role there for 6 months. I hope it's behaving - if not, I know who to put you in touch with!! It might seem a bit daft, but I get this lovely, fuzzy feeling knowing that the clients I work with are #makingadifference to other people and their businesses......and hopefully I am in turn making a difference for them. It's a privilege to be a small part of that. Elinor Brett, FCIPD Paul Holland Cathy Land Sabby G. Nick Gilhespie #HRconsulting #HRprojects

Some great #clientfeedback this week...... "a special thank you to Eli for her sound advice and quick follow-up from the moment we approached her about the project" "Echo entirely your comments about Eli who has been fabulous. It’s invaluable to have flexible and local expertise to help us through. She has managed some of the heavy lifting and also helped me in ensuring I was well prep’d for conversations with the employee" Being a #consultant means being able to flex to big and small projects and being ready for #timecritical activities on occasions. Thank you Raphael HEINIS and Andy Duckworth for your feedback. It's so important to get (or seek) feedback to know we are on track as #businessowners. Providing a #greatservice is so important for reputation and risk (for me and my clients)......never take it for granted and use it to adapt and improve where necessary. #HRconsulting #businessconsulting

Today is my Birthday - I am 6...... 😍 ! I can hardly believe it's 6 years since I set up on my own and started #consulting, and this year has been a great one (as have most to be fair.....I consider myself very privileged to be able to do what I do with such fantastic clients) I'm celebrating with a bit of work (what else can be expected) and a little drink after work - courtesy of my lovely People Team colleagues at Dext (this was my parting gift and I kept it for today!) Tomorrow starts year 7 so onwards and upwards...... Elinor Brett, FCIPD David Brett Janice Donaghue Vicki S. Sharon Scortis James Magee Adrianna Bakker Naomi L. Well - I am off and partnering again with Radford Data & Analytics to conduct a full compensation review for a client. We hit an early 'blip' but Jennifer Clarke has come to the rescue and saved the day, pulling out all the stops to help - thank you Jennifer, we are truly grateful 🤩 Data submission activity starts now - back to the world of #data and #spreadsheets for a wee while. Then the analysis begins. It couldn't be further from my last #CPO project, but I genuinely love the #variety I get working as an #independentconsultant. Glasses on, data brain engaged 🤓 Elinor Brett, FCIPD Cathy Land #HRprojects #HRconsulting #compensationreview
