We’re happy to share our latest residential planning application for the refurbishment and extension of a large Georgian villa near Stroud. The application includes the sensitive refurbishment of the house and billiard room, with contemporary extensions to form new living spaces, a gym & wellness area, and a bat house. The new extensions are inspired by the historic vernacular of the house and follow extensive consultation with the clients as well as the planning, ecology, and lighting consultants. We are happy to announce that planning approval has been granted for our latest project in the heart of the Forest of Dean. The development features six new apartments that blend contemporary living, inspired by the local vernacular style. The project is aimed at providing much needed housing that is affordable to the local market. Each apartment has a private pocket garden and are powered by renewable energy solutions. We’re excited to share our latest approval of a new planning application for a proposed extension and alterations to an existing dwelling in Cheltenham, along with a replacement outbuilding. The proposed material palette has been thoughtfully chosen to complement the existing dwelling and has been revised based on feedback from planning officers. The first-floor addition will feature timber cladding, reflecting the existing timber-clad elevations, while the roof will be finished in slate to match the main house. In addition, the application includes the replacement of an existing outbuilding with a new garden studio, intended for use as ancillary accommodation for the owners. The design of the studio complements the extension with a matching material palette, ensuring a cohesive appearance throughout the site. The branding was designed to be subtle yet bold and seamlessly complement the church’s Grade II-listed architecture, enhancing its historic character without overshadowing it. #ThrowbackThursday! 🌿 At Edge Design Workshop we are passionate about how strong design decisions often align with keeping things simple. The client brief was to update the property to reflect the changing needs of their family and provide additional space for their growing art and furniture collection. Whilst the original dwelling appeared very tired it still retained much of its original mid 20th Century character and we felt it was important to celebrate that era, rather than cloak it, and create a “new” house. Our inspiration came from the iconic Eames House, which we referenced throughout the design, creating double height glazed screens at the front and rear of the house and a generous hallway, flooded with light to provide a central focal point for their art collection. New extensions were finished in metal cladding to complement the coloured panels within the glazed screens, linking new and old elements together. The brickwork facade was stained black to provide a more harmonious aesthetic, while still allowing the historic development of the property to be expressed. Great to see one of our local projects in Battledown taking shape. With the scaffolding now down, we're thrilled to see how beautifully the Siberian larch timber pairs with the Wienerberger - Marziale light bricks, creating a perfect blend of natural textures. The playful massing, which responds to the topography of the site adds dynamic character to the design, whilst capturing stunning views of Cheltenham. Internally the rooms are flooded with natural light through the abstract placement of windows, doors and rooflights.
