Supporting UK Research & Innovation with evidence-based reviews of equality, diversity & inclusion practices.
About us
The EDI Caucus - or EDICa - will strengthen the Research & Innovation system by supporting a culture in which a diversity of ideas, perspectives, and talent from all backgrounds, areas of the UK and career stages can thrive. EDICa will generate and share high quality evidence on practices that improve equality, diversity and inclusion outcomes in the Research & Innovation system through the leadership team working together with a network of experts and practitioners as well as the Funders. EDICa is funded by UKRI (the UK's largest public funder of research and innovation) with additional support from the British Academy. Participating UKRI research councils are AHRC, BBRC, ESRC, EPSRC and Innovate UK. Our three objectives are 1) To provide insights from research evidence on EDI that informs and shapes the work of the funders, and the broader research and innovation sector. 2) To address priority evidence gaps by commissioning and undertaking new research, and by supporting UKRI and the British Academy in testing and evaluating new EDI-related initiatives. 3) To promote, coordinate and facilitate interdisciplinary approaches to research on EDI.

Co-design is central to the caucus and central to successful interventions to improve working lives. Please sign up for our workshops to co-design enabling workplaces in the research and innovation ecosystem!
EDICa is hosting workshops to co-design virtual reality scenarios and training on how to make research & innovation workplaces more enabling. This work is in collaboration with Animmersion UK Ltd. We want to hear experiences both good and bad from a range of sectors, disciplines, and role types (PhD students, admin, researchers, inventors, technicians). Our online workshop for deaf BSL-users will take place on Tuesday, 21 January 15:00-17:00, facilitated by Jemina Napier. Our 2 online workshops for general admission are: Wednesday 22 January, 14:00 – 16:00 Thursday 23 January, 14:00 – 16:00 Please register your availability for all 3 options here: https://lnkd.in/eh5jA2qE EDICa is committed to enabling the participation of everyone interested. We have a budget set aside to remunerate participants with a low income. We are using the Minimum Income Standard for the UK in 2023 (see link here) which says a single person on £29,500 and a couple with children earning £50,000 between them is the threshold. For these workshops (2hrs) we would provide £100 in remuneration. If you are below those limits and need remuneration for your time, you can indicate this when EDICa contact you with a Zoom link. #BSL #BritishSignLanguage #Academia #Research #Innovation #Accessibility #A11y #EDI #DEI https://lnkd.in/eyiJCW8H

EDICa are pleased to see updated guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) on Endometriosis diagnosis and management. It seems that they have added family history, age considerations, referral to scans, MRIs and specialists even if check-ups and scans look ‘normal’, symptoms control, but most importantly, to take into account different experiences of pain (including cultural background and neurodiversity), see below: ‘Take into account that every person's experience of pain is unique to them and may be expressed in different ways, both verbally and non-verbally. In particular, this may vary because of: - their cultural background and beliefs - their socioeconomic status - any neurodiverse conditions they may have. Survey open until 31 October, looking for experiences of carers in UK higher education in STEMM field. Please share widely.
Are you a UK-based STEMM researcher and carer? We invite you to complete a 15-minute survey about your experiences as a carer in a UK Higher Education Institute. This research project will examine the scale of current provisions to support carers working in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine) subjects in UK Higher Education Institutes, the transparency of existing policy and opportunities for improved support. This project is being led by UKRI fellows Laura Wolz, Laura Pallet and Laura Carter (water@leeds Associate Director). @STEMM_carers www.carersinstemm.co.uk
