  • Inspired by the contrasts of The Outrun—from Orkney's wild beauty to Edinburgh’s vibrant streets—we invited young creatives from Orkney and Edinburgh on a journey of expression. Our Creative Youth Exchange paired the group with artists, writers, and our Discovery & Participation team to explore ideas of identity, home, and landscapes. Follow their journey on our website 👇 https://lnkd.in/eW9QfK4Y 📷 Young Creatives

  • 'We let free our inhibitions of 'adulting' to embrace play!' 🕺 As part of the Culture Makes initiative, we celebrate the Physical impact of culture. Back in 2022, in collaboration with Akram Khan Company we delivered our 'Jungle Book Reimagined' dance workshop to over 300 people. From experienced dancers to dance floor phobics, everyone was welcome! Placing the importance of connecting with and respecting our natural world at its heart, but also giving people aged between 8-80+ the opportunity to get involved in a professional dance workshop 👯 To play is to move, and there's is no better way to get some physical exercise in than through your inner child! No matter how silly you feel dancing like an elephant... 🐘 Cultural Philanthropy Foundation #CultureMakes

  • This was such an amazing project, one that brought young people from Orkney into the Church Hill Theatre, both through their work and in person. The festival engages with Scottish communities year-round and on this specific project, the First Minister even came down for a look.

Our work in August extends beyond the performances 👀 We also focus on bringing the arts to young people in Scotland - particularly with our 'Discover' series. Through workshops cultivated by professionals: our workshops in dance, theatre and music have been attended by young people over 800 times 🤩 This year we hosted 17 students from Orkney and Edinburgh as part of our Discover Theatre Youth Exchange project. These young people explored the themes of The Outrun - home, identity and the power of nature, through writing. This project allowed them to connect with other young people interested in theatre, hone their skills in writing and have conversations on what makes a good story 🎭 They finished their project by seeing The Outrun and reading some of their poems to Festival Director Nicola Benedetti ✍️ 💛 Cultural Philanthropy Foundation #CultureMakes

  • If you weren’t lucky enough to join us at our home at The Hub last month for some very intimate performances – then don’t worry. We’re about to take The Hub to your home! 💛 This year, we opened our doors to Sky Arts to record our Up Lates series at The Hub and now we’re inviting you to enjoy it. Tonight, join us on Sky Arts at 10pm as we welcome an ensemble of world class musicians to our stage 🎵 We’re so thrilled to share our Up Lates series on Sky Arts, and to bring viewers a very special slice of the Festival experience. These unforgettable encounters with extraordinary musicians were filmed in our home, The Hub, and now we can offer a front-row seat to audiences in homes across the country 🤩 Hosted by our Festival Director Nicola Benedetti and joined by: Soumik Datta, Schola Cantorum De Venezuela, Leonore Piano Trio, Sarah Connolly, Gonzalo Grau and Gioconda Cabrera Colon ✨
