Continuing to honour International Women in Science day, let's spotlight more of the inspiring women in science across Edrington: "I chose to study science because I have always been fascinated by the challenge of solving complex problems. From a young age, I found joy in figuring out how things work and uncovering the underlying principles of the world around me. Science offers me the perfect platform to channel this curiosity and passion" Ellen Hancock, Quality Control Scientist "When I was a child, I always tried to understand things, to find explanations for phenomena that happened around me. I remember that one of the first things I asked for was a microscope because I wanted to observe things that cannot be seen with the naked eye. One of my first ‘experiments’ was to see how oil did not dissolve in water while milk did." Fátima Aragón García , Spanish Cask Auditor #EdringtonLife #WomenInScience #MakeAWorldOfDifference

This week we celebrated International Day of Women and Girls in Science on the 11th February. We recognised the incredible contributions of women in science past, present, and future. Across our business, we’re lucky to have talented female scientists who play a key role in crafting the exceptional quality of our products. From innovation and research to quality control and sustainability, their expertise helps shape our success. To mark this day, we heard from some of the inspiring women in science within our business. Here they share insights into their roles, what led them to a career in science, and what they’re most proud of. "I’ve been with the team for a year now and I’m proud of how I have fit right in and thrown myself in to learning as much as I can about whisky production and maturation processes. I’m not afraid to ask questions – I think that is really important for any budding scientist." Katie Perrie - Research Scientist "I manage a small team of technical experts and support them in expanding our understanding of the science behind our products. I use my years of experience to give advice, be a sounding board, and help find ways around problems. I’m responsible for the day to day running of the Edrington Research and Innovation Centre. With International Day of Women and Girls in Science yesterday, it was great to hear from our very own Rachel Walters, Director of Operations The Macallan on her inspiring career in STEM and how she has honed the skill of influencing. The discussion covered bravery, putting the work in, overcoming challenge, self-reflection and rhinos….yes rhinos….. A huge thank you to the Balance Network for organising such a well-attended, thought-provoking session. #makeaworldofdifference #EdringtonLife #STEM #WomeninScience

Yesterday Edrington colleagues attended a Glasgow University Workplace 101: Skills That Matter event, part of a programme set up to close skill gaps observed in graduates entering the workforce. The event featured insightful pitches from employers, sharing valuable tips and advice to help students navigate their career journeys, post-university. Caroline Hay led an excellent presentation on Mastering Remote Working and Ruairidh Hunter and Ruth Summers thoroughly enjoyed connecting with so many enthusiastic students at the networking session afterwards. Giving More to Education forms part of our ongoing commitment to supporting students navigate their future, so a big thank you to University of Glasgow & Victoria McPhee for having us and thanks to our Edrington colleagues for taking part! Our values are Giving, Respect, Integrity, and Excellence. With giving, we get four paid giving more days every year to get involved in community projects or fundraise. Nicky Sonderegger shares her experience leading initiatives in MEAI: "I took the lead on Engagement & Culture for the MEAI region about 2 years ago, in addition to my commercial role. During this time, I have led a network of passionate individuals on initiatives spanning Giving More to our communities & charitable organisations across the region, Sustainability activities, Wellbeing programmes and embedding Diversity Equity & Inclusion in everything we do. I found myself expanding my knowledge on new topics and collaborating with colleagues across the global business that I would typically not work with. This experience, through regional and global collaboration, has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of Edrington’s core values and how the business works hard to implement them across the globe. A highlight for me is the incredible work we did (and continue to do) in Giving More, where we support charities nominated by our colleagues. Charities that are close to their hearts and their belief systems, across a massive multi-cultural region that is MEAI." At Edrington, we have a chance to do things differently by making simple habit changes that can positively impact the environment. Our Green Team network stretches across the globe, and despite our different locations, we all face common challenges. To inspire you, here are some resolutions from a couple of Green Team members to promote a more sustainable lifestyle in 2025. What makes these examples great is that they are personal to everyone, enabling each individual to make meaningful changes in their own unique way. "In the mornings, after cooking bacon, I add oats and grains to the leftover fat to soak it up and then put it out for the birds instead of throwing it away. I also use waste cardboard as mulch for weeds and am starting a no-dig gardening system to improve soil health. Additionally, I’m planning to cycle to town whenever possible instead of using the car.” Ann-Marie Butland, Macallan Green Team Lead. “I have committed to drastically reducing my use of single-use plastics and eliminating paper products in my household. To achieve this, we’ve switched to laundry sheets, reusable spray bottles, and hand soap tablets, replaced paper towels with cloth napkins and bamboo towels." Jillian Farrell, Americas Green Team Lead. It’s important to remember the snowball effect that these simple habit changes can have. Whether it’s inspiring colleagues, friends and family, or even motivating yourself to do more, keeping sustainability front of mind can lead to significant positive impacts. #MakeAWorldOfDifference #EdringtonLife #Sustainability #Greenteam
