Building a low carbon future.

About us

EET Hydrogen is a leading player in the energy transition and is developing the first large scale, low carbon hydrogen production hub in the UK. By 2030, we’re aiming to deliver nearly 4GW of low carbon hydrogen – 40% of the UK Government’s target. We’re investing £1bn in the UK’s largest industrial region (the North-West) to enable businesses to switch from fossil fuels to low carbon energy, helping to secure and grow vital industries and jobs and unlocking billions of pounds of related investment. An integral part of HyNet, one of two UK Government’s Track 1 clusters for industrial decarbonisation, EET Hydrogen’s HPP1 plant (350MW capacity) was selected as one of two initial large low carbon hydrogen plants in the UK. HPP2 will be the largest low carbon hydrogen plant in the UK producing up to 1,000MW – enough to power the city of Liverpool. The initial HPP1 and HPP2 plants will capture around 2.5 million tonnes of carbon per annum – equivalent to taking 1.1 million cars off the roads.

  • This week, our team visited ESB at Carrington Power Station as part of our ongoing Customer Roadshow. Since 2016 Carrington has been powering more than 1 million homes and businesses in the Greater Manchester area, the gas fired power station is one of the most efficient thermal plants in the UK. ESB is committed to achieving net zero targets, aligning closely with the UK Government's Clean Power 2030 agenda. Central to this ambition is the role of hydrogen through the HyNet network. Hydrogen offers a transformative opportunity to support ESB’s decarbonisation efforts, helping it to meet national and global sustainability goals. By integrating hydrogen into its operations, ESB aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions, establishing Carrington as a blueprint for the future decarbonisation of other power plants in its portfolio. Matt Benson, plant manager at ESB Carrington, said: "ESB is proud to support HyNet as it represents a significant step towards achieving a net-zero future. By integrating hydrogen into Carrington Power Station, we are not only reinforcing our commitment to decarbonising energy generation but also pioneering solutions that will shape the low-carbon economy of tomorrow. “Hydrogen offers an innovative, scalable pathway to reducing emissions while ensuring reliable, flexible power generation, and HyNet is at the forefront of making this vision a reality." #CustomerRoadshow #hydrogen #H2ready #hydrogeneconomy #customers #collaboration #FromAmbitionToAction #PeopleProductPlace Storengy - ENGIE Cadent Gas Limited

As part of our Customer Roadshow, we’re connecting with leading industrial and power companies across the North West and beyond, to hear about their plans to reduce carbon emissions and support the creation of clean jobs.  Decarbonising industrial processes is critical to achieving the UK Government’s 2030 clean energy goals, with industry accounting for approximately 25% of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions. However, it’s a complex challenge that demands collaborative solutions. That’s why companies like Pilkington United Kingdom Limited and NGF Europe (NSG Group), both part of the NSG Group, are actively exploring opportunities to source low-carbon hydrogen from HyNet.  Over the past few years, Pilkington UK has been excited about the potential of low-carbon hydrogen to support the production of low-carbon glass. As part of our visit the company explained why HyNet will play a pivotal role in reducing its reliance on fossil gas in Pilkington UK’s glass furnace, ultimately driving further progress in decarbonising its glass manufacturing processes. Neil Syder, Managing Director at Pilkington UK, said “Securing a reliable, cost-effective supply of hydrogen at our Greengate Works site will enable us to transition from producing low-carbon glass on a run-by-run basis to making it our standard manufacturing procedure. This marks a crucial step toward delivering carbon-free buildings by making low-carbon glass a more routine specification choice for architects and specifiers. “Joining the HyNet network in the North West unlocks the potential to permanently remove thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions from our production annually, representing significant progress toward meeting our Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-certified goals for carbon neutrality. “This initiative also aligns with our vision to makechange™ by transforming our processes and delivering low-carbon building products that will accelerate the decarbonisation of the built environment.” Iain Ferguson, Operations Manager at NGF Europe, said "NGF Europe Ltd welcomes the progress being made by the HyNet partners to further develop the supply of vital low carbon hydrogen to North West industry. Although we have significantly reduced our carbon emissions through energy efficiency projects, we see the use of low-carbon hydrogen as being the vital next-step in maintaining glass-fibre manufacturing in the North-West" We’re proud to support the NSG Group in its efforts to remove carbon from industry and leverage hydrogen as a clean energy solution to power glass production right here in the North West.  #CustomerRoadshow #hydrogen #H2ready #hydrogeneconomy #customers #collaboration #FromAmbitionToAction #PeopleProductPlace Cadent Gas Limited Storengy - ENGIE

  • What a great day our EET Hydrogen team had at the Green Expo 2024 Youth Conference in Cheshire. The Youth Conference offers students a great glimpse into green careers and the skills they’ll need for the future, ensuring they are ready to make a difference in the net zero economy. As EET Hydrogen develops, we want to inspire a pipeline of young people for the jobs we’ll need in the future, so we were delighted to sponsor this year’s event as their highlights video shows. #GreenExpoUK #netzero #netzeroworkforce #greenenergy #greencareers #fromambitiontoaction

  • We’re traveling across the North West to meet leading industrial and power companies, along with our key HyNet partners EET Hydrogen, HyNet, Storengy UK and Cadent Gas Limited. They are core to the region providing collectively some c 340,000 jobs – and are our key low carbon hydrogen customers! We are hearing about plans to reduce carbon emissions to help secure the clean jobs of the future.   Last week, we visited Ingevity, which is preparing to commission new boilers at its #Warrington site, which can be configured to run on hydrogen. Ingevity has been exploring hydrogen options with HyNet for several years and now welcomes greater clarity on timelines for hydrogen production, transportation and storage infrastructure. Set to be operational in 2025, its new boilers will receive further investment, and are expected to consume hydrogen in 2030. Emissions reductions achieved by using energy such as hydrogen are critical to Ingevity’s ambition to be carbon neutral for absolute GHG emissions from manufacturing operations by 2050.   Key Stats   - Ingevity’s Warrington site is ISCC PLUS mass balance accredited for the use of sustainable feedstocks to advance the transition to a circular economy - Ingevity’s Capa ® polycaprolactone products have eight global certifications for biodegradability and compostability in multiple environments -  Ingevity’s Warrington site is on a growth trajectory having employed an additional 80 people in the last five years   We are committed to supporting Ingevity in becoming hydrogen-ready and ensuring its connection to the H2 pipeline by 2030. Stay tuned to our social channels for more updates from the Customer Roadshow!  #CustomerRoadshow #hydrogen #H2ready #hydrogeneconomy #customers #collaboration #FromAmbitionToAction #PeopleProductPlace

This week we’re celebrating Green Careers Week, an incentive close to our hearts that promotes real opportunities for young people to have a career that will genuinely make a difference. It’s all about fostering green skills, so all the abilities, values, attitudes, knowledge, and technical skills that are needed to develop new ways of working that support climate change. We’re really proud of our culture and our range of roles for everyone here at EET Hydrogen. Each of us contributes for a lower carbon future, as we reimagine energy for industry in the HyNet cluster, and develop one of the world’s first large-scale, low carbon hydrogen production hubs in the North West. As we build EET Hydrogen, we’re equally keen to build a future talent pipeline from school through to employment, to showcase the new jobs that will be needed in the future.
