Funding and giving young people in Gravesham, fast and direct access to mental health counselling
About us
Based on the National Statistics, 1,600 young people aged between 13-18, living in Gravesham and struggling with their mental health. The Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund provides fast, access to mental health counselling for young people aged 13-18, living in Gravesham. The counselling referral form provides the means to access mental health counselling fast. We provide the funding direct to independent, local BACP counsellors who accept EHMF terms. Our one point of contact quickly builds trust with young people. Money is raised by the local community and businesses through a variety of events and sponsorship. Since April 2022 up until November 2024 we have supported nearly 300 young people. Inspired by my 19 year old Stepson, Elliott, who took his own life in June 2020.

"They’re struggling to manage soaring demand due to staff shortages and a lack of resources." I strongly disagee with this recent quote in The Guardian. The NHS do not utilise the private sector, so while these young people cannot access help, resources which are there, are not being use. We are bucking the UK trend in Gravesham, thanks to the strong community support we have and the amazing counsellors who have teamed up with us to help. I have no confidence this situation is going to be sorted by this or any government in the next decade. We must carry on as a community to address the situation locally! #Youngpeople #mentalhealthsupport

Shoutout for the incredible Kent Fire and Rescue crew! From engaging families in safety initiatives to leading impactful fundraising efforts, the crew at Kent Thameside fire station have always been at the heart of the Gravesham community, helping make real difference. This week they have been out collecting in the town, supporting the Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund helping us raise the vital funds we need, to keep us supporting our young people in 2025. We have had 170 young people refer in 2024 with over 50 young people currently in counselling. This has all been made possible with the huge community effort we have seen throughout 2024. Thank you to all who have been part of this, together we have all made a difference, bucking the UK trend and making a huge impact locally. A special mention to all the Community Group admins who have supported us, publishing our news throughout the year and of course to our amazing counsellors, who without their support none of this would be possible. Have a lovely Christmas. We are delighted to announce that Jones Bootmaker, a retailer at Bluewater , has generously donated £1,000 to the Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund following a grant application earlier this summer. The donation was made possible thanks to the Pavers Foundation, a charitable initiative dedicated to making a positive impact on local communities. Danny Plumb, Asst Store Manager at Jones Bootmaker, was inspired by the work we do and was eager to lend his support. The Pavers Foundation, which has awarded over £2 million to various causes, contributes 2% of Pavers Shoes’ annual net profit, as well as the total profits from carrier bag sales in stores, to help fund meaningful community projects. We are incredibly grateful for Danny’s commitment and the Foundation’s generous contribution, which will help us continue supporting young people in Gravesham. Thank you, Danny, and everyone at the Pavers Foundation, for making a difference! Photo: Kerry Holmes, Patron of EHMF CIC and Asst. Incredible day, highly emotional. We have lost 3 more young people to suicide in Gravesham, since losing Elliott back in 2020. This is affecting so many families. This award is in recognition of the huge community support we receive and the many young lives we can change as a result. We have put the vehicle in place to give the young people of Gravesham a safe place and to access help fast. The award is for the whole community, the money will help the young people by directly funding 100 counselling sessions in 2025. A big thank you to Benefact Group and WRS Insurance Brokers for your contribution and support. 👏👏👏💙
We were thrilled to attend the Benefact Group Charity Heroes Awards 2024 last week and announce Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund CIC as the winner of the Local Community Initiative category! 🏆 Presented by our Head of Broking & Operations, Gungor Baykan, this recognition comes with a £5,000 donation to support their invaluable work. The Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund CIC provides counselling for 13 to 18-year-olds in Gravesham, harnessing the private sector to ensure young people get the help they need. With this donation, they will deliver 10,000 counselling sessions—changing the lives of up to 14 young people. As they say: "The £5,000 will, quite simply, pay for 100 counselling sessions probably fund 12 and 14 young people and potentially change their lives." We’re proud to support such a meaningful initiative and celebrate the incredible difference they’re making in young lives. We'd also like to congratulate the fantastic runners-up in this category, Future Toolbox & Open Road Visions who each received a £1,000 donation 👏 #CharityHeroes #MakingADifference #WRSInsuranceBrokers

Looking forward to the Benefact Group Charity Heroes Awards at the Tower of London on Thursday. We are finalists in the category: Local Community Initiative 2024. Mental health issues among young people have reached crisis point. Since April 2022, the Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund has been a vital lifeline, offering mental health support to over 300 young people in Gravesham since April 2022. We rely almost entirely on community-driven events and donations to sustain our critical work. So far this year, over 6,000 people, young and old, in the Gravesham Community, have taken part in raising funds for our cause, united in helping solve a national problem at a local level. Thank you to eveyone who have been part of this amazing journey. Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund - Powered by the community! #BGCharityHeroes24 #Mentalhealthsupport #youngpeople #communitysupport

Last month, we were delighted to receive two generous cheques from Kent County Council (KCC). Earlier this year, Bryan Sweetland, KCC Chairman, proudly selected us as one of his Charities of the Year, alongside We Are Beams Charity in the Dartford, Swanley, and Gravesham areas. The funds were raised through the KCC Staff Lottery Fund, which has been a long-time supporter of many charities throughout Kent. We are thrilled to announce that KCC Staff Lottery Fund has donated £5,000 to our cause. Additionally, FCC Environment, KCC’s waste contractor, contributed a further £1,000. This was raised by selling recycling household items from their Waste Recycling Centre and offering them for sale at their popular Pop-Up Shop. Visitors can find pre-loved items at bargain prices, and it’s wonderful to see that this initiative has been so well received. In fact, FCC is planning to open a permanent shop in 2025! We Are Beams also received cheques of the same value, continuing the spirit of giving and community support. We want to extend our thanks to everyone who has been involved and supported us. With the huge community effort over the past three years, we’ve been able to support over 300 young people with mental health challenges in the Gravesham area. We’re incredibly grateful for everyone’s generosity and support. #mentalhealthsupport #youngpeople #community

MID KENT GOLF CLUB LIMITED Ladies Captain makes us her Charity of the Year! We are delighted to announce the incoming Lady Captain, Suzi Taylor, has made us her Charity of the Year. The Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund was invited to say a few words at the Ladies Captain Drive-in earlier last month. The club has long been at the heart of the Gravesham community, raising thousands for local charities over the years. She will be organising a number of fundraising activities throughout her term as the Ladies Captain. Mid Kent golf club also supported us earlier in the year with an excellent prize at our golf day. Thank you to Suzi, the club and everyone involved for your kind support. Photo: Suzi Taylor with Club Professional, Mark Foreman and past Captains at her fun inaugural Drive-in ceremony.
