We are very proud to announce the overall winners of the eISR 2024: Omer ÉTS with Omer 13! Runners-up were Human-Powered Submarine Team @ FAU with Owlbacore, who also won the Communications and Reliability prizes. Omer claimed the Agility & Endurance prize and also recorded the competition’s fastest speed: 5.29kts! The Innovation prize went to Warwick Submarine with Godiva V; the Sustainability Prize to HSRW Submarine for Chelonia’s fully recyclable PLA & aluminium hull. Archimède - Polytechnique Montréal were awarded for their perseverance at the competition, and SIT Nautical Knights were dubbed Best Newcomer. Congratulations to all participants, we really had two very exciting weeks of human-powered submarine racing this year! We collected a lot of footage from the races, which we are currently compiling. We look forward to showing this to everyone in the coming weeks. Our thanks goes to our hosts Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) and QinetiQ, our sponsors UKNEST and BAE Systems and all of our supporters, without whom these races would not be possible. A special thank you also goes to the British Army divers of the 17 Port & Maritime Regiment RLC for their help keeping all pilots and support divers safe. We will see some teams in Gran Canaria in September for an invitational race (more details on that to follow). Otherwise, we will see everyone back in Gosport again for the eISR 2026! #subracing #eisr2024 #submarineracing #subraces #submarine
European International Submarine Races

The grand slalom of human-powered submarine racing.
About us
Every two years, teams of university students from all around the world descend on Gosport, UK for an unconventional challenge: racing human-powered submarines against the clock on an out-and-back grand slalom course. 2024 marks the 12th anniversary of the European International Submarine Races (eISR), held at QinetiQ's Ocean Basin. The submarines on the race course are all designed and built by the teams over the preceding year or two in a unique STEM challenge that sets students up for an exciting career in the maritime sector and beyond. Over its decade of existence, the eISR has seen submarines of many different shapes and sizes, designed by over 1500 students.
