There were 203,000 smart meter installations in November 2024 - 11% fewer than the same month last year and fewer than November in 2020, 2021 and 2022 as well. November 2024 saw a 44% drop in energy supplier switches after October recorded the highest number of switches in three years. There were 265,000 changes of supplier last month - an 11% year-on-year increase. From this month onwards, we have introduced a new insight into switching by customer type. During the process of balancing the energy system, sometimes a DNO and the ESO can contract a flexible energy asset at the same time and create a coordination challenge called asset conflict. The National Energy System Operator and UK Power Networks ran a trial with ElectraLink to improve data-driven asset visibility and co-ordination and established a blueprint for future processes. Yesterday, ElectraLink immersed the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero's (DESNZ) energy analytics team in insights and trends uncovered through EMPRIS - our energy data analytics platform. We revealed facts including current smart meter productivity, actual energy consumption vs EPC estimates, regional progress of the smart meter rollout and more. Some members of the DESNZ analytics team are already familiar with EMPRIS, but this was the first time we were able to show them such granular detail on emerging trends shaping the energy system. It was great working with Endava to build our first geo-spatial energy data portal which has since evolved to show granular location-based trends on consumption, generation and flexibility assets. This portal, Network Data Explorer, will uncover critical insights into the UK energy sector on the road to Net Zero.

Witness the boom in smart energy data use. 🤯 ElectraLink recently hit a milestone exposing the exponential rise of the need for smart, use-case oriented data from the energy system: we received the 100-millionth API call of 2024 alone (from a hotel/spa in Reading) through our data solutions. ElectraLink’s first API call was received from a supplier in July 2018. Then, ElectraLink’s 100-millionth API call was received in July 2023 when a household in Lancashire searched for energy deals. Now, we are receiving tens of millions of API calls every month. These APIs power energy usage profiling, price comparison websites, supplier and broker quoting, carbon reporting, bill validation, and more.
