BATTERY TECHNOLOGY: Electric ships industry to reach US$15.7bn by 2030 According to Research and Markets' Electric Ships - Global Strategic Business Report, the global market for #ElectricShips was estimated at US$7.8bn in 2023 and is projected to reach US$15.7bn by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 10.5% from 2023 to 2030. Additionally, the #HybridShips segment is expected to reach US$12.7bn by 2030 with a CAGR of 10.4%. FERRIES & CRUISES: Green passenger ferry begins operating in Hamburg, Germany HADAG Seetouristik und Fährdienst AG’s green-energy hybrid passenger #ferry has been christened #Finkenwerder and put into operation. The 33m ferry has capacity for up to 250 passengers and will be used on Hadag's routes in the Port of Hamburg and on the Elbe. NEW VESSELS: First electric #hydrofoil ferry in the US begins operating on #LakeTahoe Candela and FlyTahoe have introduced the first US-based Candela P-12, a foiling electric ferry, on Lake Tahoe. "It basically works like a jet fighter, which is constantly balanced using ailerons. The principle of the P-12 is the same, except our wings fly in water instead of air," said Gustav Hasselskog, CEO and founder of Swedish tech company Candela. “Our service will provide faster transport than cars or buses, while keeping the lake blue," said Ryan Meinzer, founder and CEO of FlyTahoe. #Shipping leaders commit to 10% uptake of zero-emission fuels by 2030 at #COP29 More than 50 leaders across the spectrum of the shipping value chain – #efuel producers, vessel and cargo owners, #ports and equipment manufacturers – have signed a call to action to strengthen targets and commit to increasing the uptake of zero or near-zero #GHG emission shipping fuels to at least 5%, striving for 10%, by 2030. Lloyd's Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub was one of the signatories. Its managing directorJames Forsdyke said, “We are proud to be part of this initiative dedicated to expanding the production of green hydrogen as a marine fuel or as an enabler for synthetic zero to near-zero carbon fuels. One of the biggest tasks ahead of us is developing a robust and reliable #greenhydrogen supply chain to deliver zero carbon fuels to vessels in key maritime hubs in ways that are safe, sustainable and that benefit all shipping stakeholders, particularly seafarers and port communities."
