*ELECTRICITY LAWYER (EL): ENERGY POLICY U-TURN AND IMPLICATIONS FOR NET ZERO AND SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA* The Electricity Lawyer Policy Brief highlights how recent policy changes in the United States, particularly under Donald Trump’s renewed leadership, signal a significant energy policy u-turn. This shift prioritizes fossil fuel production, rolls back climate regulations, and undermines international climate finance commitments, such as those tied to the Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA). For Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), the ripple effects of these changes are particularly concerning. The region, which relies heavily on international climate finance to support renewable energy initiatives, faces heightened challenges in its journey towards sustainable energy solutions. But all hope is not lost for SSA, based on our proposed recommendations on the way forward for the region. To access the Policy Brief, click on the document.
