In a fusion of renewable energy and sustainable agriculture, almost 4,000 sheep will initially graze on Great North Road Solar and Biodiversity Park, once the project is expected to begin in 2027.   This figure will likely more than double to 9,000 once lambing commences.   Managed by experienced local farmers Phil Weaver and Pete Wilson, the flock will double as natural vegetation management, as well as saving the significant carbon emissions associated with grass cutting. Shading from the solar panels will also create optimal grazing conditions, leading to healthier sheep.   Watch the interview with Phil to find out more about this exciting partnership. 🎥 Watch the video here: ▶️ https://lnkd.in/e2_aKC5b

  • 🌞 Driving the UK Energy Transition with British Steel 🌍   Elements Green is proud to announce a multi-million-pound partnership with Pro Renewables that puts British steel at the heart of the Great North Road Solar & Biodiversity Park.   Located near Newark, this landmark project will generate enough clean energy to power every home in Nottinghamshire, while delivering a significant boost to the local economy.   Why this partnership matters: ✅ All mounting frames for the site will be made exclusively from British steel – a first for a UK solar park of this scale. ✅ The steel will be produced in a UK electric arc furnace coming online in 2027, reducing the project’s carbon footprint. ✅ This commitment supports British labour, creating new job opportunities in Newark and Sherwood, including 400 jobs during construction and 10 new roles in on-site manufacturing.   With an estimated 6,637 miles of steel – enough to stretch from London to Kuala Lumpur – and a weight equivalent to three Eiffel Towers, this project highlights the UK’s capacity for innovation and sustainability. But it’s not just about energy: this partnership aligns with our vision for a healthier planet, lower energy bills, and stronger local communities. By reducing HGV movements by 650 trips and cutting material transportation emissions, Elements Green is building a more sustainable future, right here in the UK.   Our UK Project Director Mark Noone highlights that this partnership strikes an essential balance by supporting British businesses, reducing energy costs, and advancing the renewable energy transition. 📢 The Great North Road Solar & Biodiversity Park is currently in the pre-application stage, but its potential to enhance UK energy security and lower household bills is clear.     We’re excited to keep pushing boundaries, creating value, and contributing to a brighter, greener future for all. • Great North Road Solar Park has been renamed ‘Great North Road Solar and Biodiversity Park’ following partnerships with the RSPB, Sherwood Forest Trust, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, and The Trent Rivers Trust.   Plans for the development include the planting of 50,000 new trees, 25km of hedgerows, and 850 acres of land dedicated solely to positive ecological management – an area more than twice the size of Sherwood Forest Center Parcs.   Charlotte Martin-Taylor, Head of Business Conservation Advice at the RSPB, said: “Together, we will be working on Great North Road Solar and Biodiversity Park, a project that aims to combine renewable energy with habitat restoration at a landscape scale and deliver conservation opportunities for priority species. This collaboration highlights the vital role businesses can play as allies for nature, creating a future where both wildlife and clean energy thrive.”   Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gh9zgpiy

  • 🌍 Advocating for Action on Critical Raw Materials 🌱   We are proud to announce that Elements Green is a business signatory of the Green Alliance’s open letter to the UK government, urging decisive action on critical raw materials. This important letter has been addressed to the Prime Minister and Secretaries of State at FCDO, DBT, DESNZ, and Defra, highlighting the need to elevate this vital issue at COP29 and beyond.   As a renewable energy developer, critical raw materials are at the heart of what we do. These materials are essential to advancing clean energy technologies, from solar panels to battery storage solutions. Signed by our Executive Chairman Mark Turner, the letter advocates for a bold national strategy to reuse, remanufacture, and recycle critical raw materials.   This initiative aims to strengthen the UK’s supply chain resilience, stimulate economic growth, and address environmental and social challenges within global supply chains. On an international level, it calls on the government to prioritise access to responsibly sourced critical raw materials as a key focus in climate change negotiations.   We fully support the government’s efforts to lead on clean energy and tackle climate change through initiatives like the Clean Power Alliance. However, it’s crucial to include a more robust UK strategy for critical raw materials in these efforts to secure a sustainable energy future.   Let’s work to ensure that critical raw materials are a top priority at COP29 and beyond.
