You may have heard about Boost, the platform designed to streamline the recording, analysis and actioning of safety observations, and we wanted to share the story behind the system. 📈🚀   What began as a casual chat between our CEO Gus Carroll and Data Scientist Morgan Walters after a client shared concerns about maximising observation data value, the idea for a fully functional tool was sparked.💭 💫   The concept took shape in summer 2023, but development kicked off in early 2024, fuelled by discussions, workshops, and a collaboration with Step Change in Safety. Boost is now a premium analytical feature within Step Change in Safety's E-Obs tool.   Initial rough sketches and a PowerApp mock-up soon evolved into the fully developed observation analysis tool we know today. Boost was developed over two years as a tool that could automatically analyse observation data, identify safety barriers, and align with IOGP standards.   We are fully committed to Boost’s development, with plans to enhance functionality, user experience, and industry-specific features to meet ever-evolving safety needs. We’re also exploring Boost’s potential in industries like construction, chemicals, and healthcare, where safety tracking remains crucial – watch this space!   Discover how we are helping the Oil & Gas industry transform safety data into actionable insights. Data Scientist @ Empirisys | Designing & Implementing AI Solutions for high-risk industries | Consulting | Product Development |

So, what were we talking about at European Process Safety Centre in Barcelona? -> AI, Process Safety, and Boost AI has been a top conversation topic of 2024, for probably every industry. Looking ahead to 2025, the real challenge will be implementing AI tools in practical, meaningful ways. High-risk industries are often data rich but struggle to extract insight, especially when it comes to Tier 3 and Tier 4 leading safety indicators. That’s where AI and natural language processing (NLP) can step in to make a real difference. At EPSC, I had the chance to showcase Boost, a tool we’ve developed at Empirisys to collect, analyse, and interpret observation data. It's all about maximising the actionable safety insights we can extract from observation data. Launching Boost during a week of AI-focused conversations felt like the perfect moment, and it’s exciting to see how much potential there is for AI to positively influence process safety. #processsafety
