Our Entrepreneurs in Residence breathe life into the theories we teach in the classroom. Our EiRs also support with University Impact and Research, with numerous EiRs now part of our published research team in areas such as entrepreneurship, leadership, stewardship and family business to equality.

Yesterday was graduation day for our MSc students, sorry you could not be with us Vitak Cheav. The students recounted tales of encounters with our EiRs, how they were supported by them, inspired them and how our EiRs have made a difference to their education and to their life as they set off to explore the world beyond a University MSc. This is why we do the job!

This week two of the team in the shape of Gillian Bardin and Kris Ingham supported our MSc students in acquiring a stronger understanding of the darker arts of financing a business venture and raising capital. They imparted invaluable advice that with the best will in the world, the books just can't !!! Afterwards Kris took time out to spend with a couple of students and Martine Dawber who provides outstanding students careers and support services for our students. In good business schools you will trip across real business people regularly.
Fantastic to see one of our EiRs Gillian Bardin with friend of the programme Kris Ingham today talking all things practical in finance to our MSc students. Real life perspectives on what for many is a dark art in its own right is invaluable to students looking to fund ventures in the future. Thanks to Martine Dawber and Libby Packham for organising all this.

The Lancaster Entrepreneur in Residence Programme is an award winning programme! We are all very proud to have received the prestigious 2024 Pilkington Teaching Award from the Vice Chancellor Andy Schofield. And what better way to celebrate with an afternoon tea, and with these three inspiring individuals Ellie Hamilton, Magnus George and Ian Gordon PhD where this all started. Congratulations to all involved in the programme past and present, this is a magnificent achievement and we now sit alongside some very notable previous winners.
Matt Jackson from Lancaster Brewery, what an insightful presentation! Matt articulated his journey of the last 30 years to where he is now, demonstrating what hard work, determination and vision can do for us all. Before we share a couple of Matt's pearls of wisdom, thank you to Sonia Stevenson, Maryse Abi Haidar and Amy Pendlebury for making this all happen. So what did Matt share that we enjoyed: 👉 You wouldn't buy a pair of shoes without a pair of laces! Such a powerful metaphor about doing business right! 👉 The depth and strength of the relationship with his business partner Phil is invaluable. 👉 The relationships and his networks were what made sure that he could turn disaster into opportunity. 👉 He took the first pub he owned from £4k per week to £44k per week in 2.5 years, that a lot of hard work and determination. Thank you Matt, it was great to see all those that attended, we will be back with another series of Fireside Chats in 2025
