📢 Breaking News! 📢 The DfE have introduced the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill to Parliament today, intending to put children’s interests at the heart of government policy. Key points from the Bill are expected to take effect from September 2026. The key objectives raised in the Bill are: ▪️Inclusive school proposals: Councils can now consider proposals for all types of schools, not just academies, ensuring the best local options for children and families. ▪️Qualified teacher requirements: New teachers in state schools must hold or be working towards Qualified Teacher Status, completing a statutory induction period before teaching. ▪️Uniform pay and conditions: School teachers will have the same core pay and conditions, giving schools more flexibility in attracting and retaining talent. ▪️Support for failing schools: Failing schools under LA control won't automatically convert to academies, allowing for a broader range of strategies to improve standards. ▪️One curriculum: All state-funded schools – including academies – will be required to teach the national curriculum. This means parents can be assured that their child is getting the benefits of the reformed curriculum – no matter what type of school they attend. ▪️Strengthened safeguarding: A duty on the safeguarding partners for local authorities, police and health to give educators a greater role enabling them to influence decision-making at every level. We’ll keep you informed as we receive further updates on the Bill's progress. 🚨 News alert! 🚨 Yesterday, the government published evidence to the STRB for the 2025/26 teachers pay award, with recommendations for a 2.8% rise. The government state that the award would “maintain the competitiveness of teacher’s pay, despite the challenging financial backdrop”, while recognising that most schools will need to supplement funding received in FY 2025/26 with efficiencies. The initial reactions from trade unions have not greeted this news positively, with both the ASCL and NEU calling for recommendations to restore competitive pay to teaching professions. We will continue to keep you updated on developments as they arise. #STRB #TeachersPay #PayAward #Unions #Teaching #Schools #Trusts #Education
