  • 🚨 For the second consecutive year, Brazil has recorded its highest-ever number of women killed for gender-related reasons. 📍 64% of these deaths happened in the home. How can we celebrate #HumanRightsDay when so many women are denied the basic right to feel safe where they live? As we close our #16DaysOfActivism series, our latest blog takes a hard look at femicide in Brazil. Join Gabrielle Leite and Beatriz Accioly Lins as they explore: 💥 The alarming rates of violence and its disproportionate impact on Black women 💥 The historical inequalities fueling this crisis 💥 The role of disaggregated data in exposing patterns and guiding solutions 💥 Why legislative measures alone aren’t enough—and what real prevention could look like 📖 Read the blog and let’s demand change: https://lnkd.in/eH8biYVS #HumanRightsDay #EndGBV #EndVAWG #Femicide #womensrights

  • Our SDG Gender Index shows incredibly concerning trends when it comes to women's secure, equal, and effective access to justice, with over 60 countries declining on this indicator. This indicator asks: 🏛 Can women bring cases before the courts without risk to their personal safety? 🏛 Are trials fair? 🏛 Women have the ability to seek redress if public authorities violate their rights? But for too many women, in too many countries, the answer to these questions is NO. ❌ Preventing and eliminating violence against women requires strong and effective justice systems that works for women and not against them. Join us during the 16 Days of Activism to demand justice systems that protect and empower women—because justice for women is justice for all! • 🚨 Incredibly alarming statistics show that the number of women being murdered has increased in 34 countries since the SDGs promised to end violence against women. Violence against women and girls remains one of the most widespread human rights violations. Globally, nearly 1 in 3 women experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. Every day, 140 women and girls are killed by their partner or a close relative—one every 10 minutes. ❌ Our latest SDG Gender Index reveals a disturbing trend: progress on eliminating homicide rates against women is not just stalling but worsening in dozens of countries. Addressing it is essential for achieving gender equality (SDG 5) and peace and justice for all (SDG 16). Yet, despite the commitments made through the SDGs, these rising numbers show we are far from delivering on those promises. 🌍This #16DaysOfActivism, we must use data to highlight the concerning prevalence of violence against women. But more than that, we must use this data to demand that leaders prioritize protecting women and girls, strengthen accountability systems, and fund initiatives that tackle the root causes of violence. Learn more about this concerning trend in our #16DaysOfActivism blog series on femicide: https://lnkd.in/eAmx6pcv

  • Effective GBV prevention work requires sustained political commitment from donors and national governments. Our recent blog series on femicide has highlighted how urgent and deadly this crisis is. The new 'What Counts' report from The Accelerator for Gender Based Violence Prevention and The Equality Institute provides an important roadmap to improve funding to prevent GBV. Head to the link to learn more: https://lnkd.in/guSs4Qp2

Addressing the root causes of GBV, including gender inequality, requires ambitious, catalytic investment. At the same time, we need approaches that sustain a lasting shift towards an intersectional-feminist and decolonising funding ecosystem. But what does that actually mean? Swipe through to learn more – you can apply these principles to funding beyond GBV prevention too. Want more? Access the What Counts? Report at the link in bio – and share widely so we can make intersectional feminist and decolonising approaches to funding the norm. #16Days #WhatCounts #16daysofactivism #preventgbv

  • 🚨 Gender-based violence (GBV) is a global crisis, yet it often goes unseen and unaddressed. That's why data matters. Data has the power to uncover hidden patterns, shapes policies, and monitor progress in combatting this violence. In our latest blog, we spotlight the innovative work of the #Safecity initiative by Red Dot Foundation - Safecity, a platform that uses crowd-sourced data to: 🌟 Map hotspots of harassment and violence 🌟 Empower communities to take action 🌟Inform policymakers and drive real change Discover how this initiative is overcoming barriers to reporting and supporting communities to make their neighbourhoods safer in our blog: https://lnkd.in/eUsQaXsQ #16Days #16DaysofActivism #EndGBV #Data4Good #Data4Change #GenderData

  • 🌍♀ The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action - a global agreement led by the feminist movement - is a critical blueprint that serves as an urgent call to action for key stakeholders toward developing and delivering on the agenda towards realising a gender-just future. 🤝As we approach the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, more than 300 feminist advocates from Asia gathered in Bangkok to culminate the regional review process and advocate for going beyond taking stock of our progress, and begin identifying and committing to a set of advocacy demands and solutions that address and reflect the complex interconnected crisis we face today. Equal Measures 2030 in collaboration with International Women's Rights Action Watch Asia Pacific, Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development and Breakthrough Trust India hosted a side event at the Beijing+30 Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference last month. The conversations at the event showed that even though the region has seen some progress, we continue to face persistent setbacks and movement led localised actions driven by policy decisions are critical to realising the Beijing vision especially in the backdrop ongoing crises relating to safety, security, resources and democracy. The SDG framework is grounded on the principles of the Beijing Platform for Action, and we were thrilled to present emerging trends on Beijing+30 themes from the#2024SDGGenderindex and draw linkages between the SDGs and Beijing Platform for Action ✨

  • Every 10 minutes, a woman loses her life to violence by an intimate partner or family member. This must change. In our latest blog, Coretta Jonah discusses the challenges we face in ending #GBV and #GenderInequality more broadly, and how #GenderData can play a powerful role in addressing these challenges. Gender data highlights the root causes of systemic inequalities that women and girls face, as well as playing a critical role in guiding the design of targeted, coordinated responses aimed at addressing these issues effectively. This #16DaysOfActivism learn more about how data-driven advocacy can help us prevent and eliminate GBV: https://lnkd.in/eVsMgSsT

  • Femicide is an alarming and growing reality for women in Indonesia. Between January and April 2023 alone, 159 cases were recorded, signaling an urgent need for comprehensive measures to prevent and address gender-based violence in the country. Behind these numbers are tragic stories of women silenced by a culture of stigma, inadequate legal protections, and rising conservatism. But there is hope. Women’s movements in Indonesia are pushing for change—advocating for stronger legal frameworks, better support for victims, and cultural shifts to challenge the deeply rooted norms that enable violence. This #16DaysOfActivism learn more about the reality of femicide in Indonesia and what can be done to combat it: https://lnkd.in/eiA_J_Tc #EndFemicide #GenderJustice #16DaysOfActivism #StandWithWomen #NoExcuses #EndGBV #EndVAWG

  • Women and girls everywhere are enduring the devastating, and all too often fatal, impacts of violence. Every year over 45,000 women lose their lives at the hands of those they should trust most, while 1 in 3 women globally experience physical or sexual violence at least once in their lifetime.   Behind these numbers are real people – women with names, stories, and dreams. Across the world, women are standing united to say enough is enough. They are raising their voices to break down walls of shame and blame.   Now is the time for: Speaking Out — Too many women suffer in silence at the hands of male violence. Accountability — we must see justice, not impunity. Dignity —Because shame belongs to perpetrators, never survivors.   Stand with us. Share. Act. Demand change. #16Days #GlobalGoals #EndViolenceAgainstWomen Project Everyone
