First introduced with the iMac G3 in 1998, this F-sharp major chord became synonymous with simplicity, innovation, and that classic Apple experience. Produced by pitch-shifting the earlier 840AV sound, it wasn’t just a chime—it was a welcome, a greeting, a promise of what was to come. Over the years, the startup sound evolved, but this particular chime remains the most iconic. Sadly, recent Mac models have left the startup sound behind, with only a rare return on the 2017 MacBook Air.
