Last week at the CATE conference held at University of Seville, I had the opportunity to present part of my PhD research. I shared findings on the tangible effects of overheated bedrooms on sleep quality and sleep thermal comfort—reinforcing the importance of designing for comfort, even under extreme conditions. The results emphasised on the real-world impact of indoor overheating. This November, Wendy Sadler MBE and I had such a good day with Bara'ah Rababah and her research colleagues at ERBE CDT in Energy Resilience and the Built Environment. 35 students, all keen to up their game through a thoughtful approach to academic poster presentation.

An exciting experience at the ERBE CDT in Energy Resilience and the Built Environment Annual Colloquium, hosted by The Bartlett, UCL's Faculty of the Built Environment! Incredible feedback and inspiring to see colleagues driving impact and engaging with policymakers, industry leaders, and senior academics. Special thanks to the ERBE CDT Management for organizing such an impactful event and my supervisors, Dr Arash Beizaee and Dr Matthew Li for their supports and recommendations.

It has been my honor to attend the ERBE CDT in Energy Resilience and the Built Environment Annual Colloquium since November 2021, but this year was particularly special for me. As a final-year PhD student, I delivered some of my research findings on "Energy efficiency achievement of indoor air quality and thermal comfort using mechanical ventilation heat recovery and solar energy pre-heating". This inspiring event was hosted at The Bartlett, UCL's Faculty of the Built Environment, bringing together brilliant minds—fellow researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and senior academics—to share ideas and solutions for a resilient built environment. During my presentation, I shared insights into how I developed my experimental setup and how the adoption of renewable energy technologies can address the energy challenges of ventilation systems operation for indoor air quality and thermal comfort improvements particularly during severe pandemic periods. I am deeply grateful to the ERBE CDT Management and the MaREI Centre for organizing such a fantastic event. A heartfelt thank you to my amazing supervisors, Dr. Dominic O' Sullivan, Professor Brian Norton, and Dr. Ken Bruton, for their invaluable guidance and encouragement throughout this research.  

What a week it's been in London – busy, exciting, and so rewarding! It kicked off with an incredible public engagement and presentation training session by the Science Made Simple team – many thanks for the insights! 💡 On Wednesday I had the chance to share my final-year PhD presentation on #ThermalDemandResponse and #BuildingEnergyFlexibility at the ERBE CDT in Energy Resilience and the Built Environment Annual Colloquium hosted at The Bartlett, UCL's Faculty of the Built Environment. The feedback and engagement were amazing, and it was so inspiring to see colleagues making waves with their work, engaging with policymakers, industry leaders, and senior academics alike. 🌍 Yesterday, I headed to CIBSE Build2Perform Live and had fantastic conversations with Richard Jack, Chris Worboys, and Peter Rankin about the challenges and next steps for creating sustainable built environments. Lots to reflect on and opportunities to be excited about! 🏗️ To top it off, the final program for the upcoming uSIM2024 Conference at The University of Edinburgh is out!
