About us
The European Association for Cancer Research is Europe’s largest professional member society and registered charity for cancer researchers with over 13,000 members worldwide. Membership is open to anyone actively working or studying in cancer research and our members work across the full spectrum of the field, from basic and translational to clinical research. We provide a wide range of services to our members, facilitate communication and collaboration, and organise a series of cancer research conferences and congresses where the latest research topics and interaction for participants are the very highest priorities. We also set out to raise the profile of cancer research and cancer researchers in Europe and the need for sustained political and economic support.

As someone entering the world of #LiquidBiopsy, a couple thoughts that stuck with me following the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) LB conference: 📈 Living in a world hyped on the power of data, it is tempting to dive straight into hot-off-the-bench datasets to extract a wealth of information. The LB community stressed the significance of pre-analytics and the impacts on downstream analyses: 🔹 Did the sample prep bias the genomic composition? (Daniel Hagey on ligation vs. fragmentation amplification approaches; An Hendrix's call for SOP) 🔹 Has sample time collection introduced bias? (Nicola Aceto's findings on the wave-like release of analytes rather than continuous stream) ❓ The growing interest in EVs and all the budding questions that arise - Widely ranging in sizes, which do we investigate? When are EVs released? How do we differentiate EVs derived from normal vs. tumour cells? How can the analyses of both inform on tumour states and TME? 🦠 Then swooping in with prokaryotic insights, Shang Cai spoke about the presence of bacteria in CTC clusters, highlighting enhanced tumour cell capabilities for immune evasion, withstanding mechanical stress during shedding and overall tumour metastasis 🍼 Cristina Saura Manich's research on the concordance of ctDNA analyses from breast milk vs. plasma and highlighting the identification of actionable mutations enabled only by the prior, for early detection of breast cancer in postpartum women 🥼 Lastly, Valsamo Anagnostou's leading work to implement and demonstrate the various utilities of liquid biopsy in the clinical setting, capturing ctDNA dynamics through her Tic Tac Toe trial for patients with NSCLC Thanks #EACR for organising a conference so diverse and engaging in talks and welcoming for both experts and newcomers. Hope to be back!
