About us

ERA (European Regions Airline Association) is a non-profit trade association representing the European aviation industry. Its strength and influence spans more than three decades, since its inception ERA has developed and grown in size and reputation to represent 50 airlines and over 140 service providers including airframe and engine manufacturers, airports, suppliers and service providers from all over Europe. By working together ERA member companies have become a well-respected and established voice of the industry. Through its shared knowledge and experience ERA is able to offer its members an invaluable means of helping identify and address common challenges. ERA works on behalf of its members to represent their interests before Europe’s major regulatory bodies. The association also bring members together to exchange information and learn from each other through different events and forums for members to meet. A major role for ERA is to raise the profile and importance of regional air transport to the economic and social development of Europe and this is undertaken through lobbying and communication campaigns.

  • Welcome to the #ERAFamily Future Energy Global! Our Director General Montserrat Barriga Andrés says: “ERA is delighted to welcome Future Energy Global to our membership, joining over 50 airlines and 160 associated companies. Sustainability is at the heart of our airlines’ operations, and with SAF availability and cost already presenting significant challenges, I am confident that FEG’s expertise in this field will be highly relevant and beneficial for our members.”

FUTURE ENERGY GLOBAL JOINS EUROPEAN REGIONS AIRLINE ASSOCIATION Dublin, 17 February 2025 – Future Energy Global (FEG), a pioneering force in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) solutions, has become an associate member of the European Regions Airline Association (ERA). ERA member airlines play an essential role in providing vital air connectivity across Europe, including to remote regions and islands, but these airlines face particular challenges in obtaining reliable and cost-effective SAF supplies. Solving those challenges for airlines and other stakeholders is Future Energy Global’s mission. FEG specialises in accelerating the SAF market through an innovative financial ecosystem that goes beyond ‘consortiums’ or ‘buyers’ clubs’ and that facilitates collaboration between all participants in the value chain. FEG enters into long-term offtake agreements with SAF producers, provides cost-effective SAF solutions for airlines, and enables investors and corporate stakeholders to participate in the scale-up of SAF production. The aviation industry has committed to reaching net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050, and SAF – made from crops, wastes, or renewable electricity – is the biggest single contributor to this net-zero goal, expected to account for about 2/3 of the necessary emissions reduction. To achieve this goal, SAF production quantities will need to scale more than 400-fold. “We’re delighted to be joining an organisation as dynamic and as forward-looking as ERA,” said Natasha Mann, CEO and Co-Founder of Future Energy Global. “From our long industry experience, we know that European regional airlines are very committed to being at the forefront of sustainability, but they don’t have the scale or specialist SAF expertise of the big global airline groups, which can put them at a disadvantage. Our ecosystem approach aggregates SAF demand so small and medium-sized airlines can benefit from our volume pricing and expertise, and so that SAF producers can scale up production more quickly - which is what we all need.” “ERA is delighted to welcome Future Energy Global to our membership, joining over 50 airlines and 160 associated companies,” said Montserrat Barriga Andrés, Director General of ERA. “Sustainability is at the heart of our airlines’ operations, and with SAF availability and cost already presenting significant challenges, I am confident that FEG’s expertise in this field will be highly relevant and beneficial for our members.”

Four years ago, KLM Cityhopper welcomed its first Embraer 195-E2. ✈️ We now have 22 in our fleet, with three more arriving this year. This transition is important because the new E195-E2s use 9% less fuel and emit 31% less CO₂ per passenger than the Embraer 190, while being 63% quieter than the E190. We are committed to making progress towards cleaner, quieter, and more efficient flight operations.  And above that, our crew and passengers love flying on the E195-E2! 💙 Photo: Mark Wagtendonk #KLM #Embraer

  • Following this week’s first Committee of the Regions #CoR Plenary, and meetings with the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), Europe’s regions have been very much in the spotlight. Our mission is to connect these regions to each other and to the rest of Europe. For regional airlines, this also means operating ‘thin’ routes – routes that are vital for local communities but not heavily travelled on. But what does this mean? Today, there are many routes that could be commercially sustainable in the long term but are difficult to become commercially viable. The European Commission is revising the current 2014 Guidelines on State aid to airports and airlines. For us, this is an opportunity to propose new start-up aid schemes that support airlines in opening reliable long-term connections by enhancing cross-border connectivity between regions and hubs.

  • French cargo airline FTL Airlines has joined ERA! Operating from the strategically located regional airport of Vatry in France, FTL GROUP currently flies an A330-200 E-Class freighter and is set on an ambitious growth trajectory, with plans to expand its fleet to up to five aircraft in the coming years. We are looking forward to supporting its growth as part of our #ERAFamily https://ow.ly/k4gX50V45p6

  • Very interesting discussions at today’s ERA Industry Affairs and Environmental & Social Group meeting. After updates from the ERA team on the main aviation regulatory and sustainability files and projects the association is working on, we enjoyed some topical presentations from members and stakeholders. EUROCONTROL presented its Flying Green platform, launched in July 2024, with the aim of supporting decarbonisation and climate adaptation through data and tools to support informed decision making. The team provided a live demo of several tools the platform offers, including a net-zero toolkit, the FuellingDecarb area with a SAF map and a fuel calculator, ClimAdapt for climate change adaptation measures, DecarbFin covering sustainable financing instruments available and the BlueBook platform which helps stakeholders understand, take action on and comply with the EU Taxonomy and CSRD. Members were extremely impressed by the tools available.   Next, Oliver Weiss of Deutsche Aircraft and Jane O'Malley from The International Council on Clean Transportation provided an overview of key EU legislation with regards to Sustainable Aviation Fuels, overviewing policies, sustainability and costs. Concerns were raised about the slow ramp-up of SAF, as it is a key tool for decarbonisation of aviation in the short-term. Finally Mark Latimer of Vertis Environmental Finance gave an update on the current state of play of carbon markets in Europe with a look at EU ETS and UK ETS. He identified 36 ERA member airlines as having obligations under one or more scheme, so it is key that all understand the latest changes and impacts. He compared the scope of the schemes, timelines and costs before moving on to CORSIA and its interaction with EU ETS. It is clear that environmental compliance is becoming increasingly complex and costly and that airlines must ensure they are aware of their obligations and plan ahead. Our Group meetings are an important resource for members to keep informed about the latest issues that affect their businesses. Thanks to all who attended and to our speakers for providing helpful and insightful presentations.

Air Greenland has signed an agreement with leasing company Carlyle Aviation Partners to lease an A320neo aircraft, which is scheduled to join the 2027 summer schedule. The lease agreement runs for six years with an option to extend and gives Air Greenland the flexibility to operate the new route between Ilulissat and Copenhagen, while further complementing the A330neo.      The aircraft will be delivered in December 2026 and will then be adapted to Greenlandic conditions. It is expected to enter service in spring 2027, just in time for the first peak season at North Greenland's new airport, which is expected to open in late 2026 with a 2,200 metre runway. The A320neo will support the increased capacity made possible by the new international airport. Read more about this: https://lnkd.in/eCJfx3Yx #airgreenland #A320neo #lease #aircraft #ilulissat
