As many have noted, November 24th marks the implementation of the new Charge Point regulations. But why are these changes so crucial? Today was a typical Sunday for me — visiting a friend and attending an EV community event on behalf of EVA England (https://lnkd.in/ePqadtua). Tates Cars kindly lent me a Hyundai Motor UK Ioniq 5N for the day (I had my eye on the Kia UK Limited EV3, but it was unavailable). With Storm Bert in full swing, it was a different test for the 650BHP Ioniq and its Pirelli P Zero tires, but it performed beautifully! My first stop was to see my friend Andrew (https://lnkd.in/e6HtaXFK). He couldn't resist filming a quick video showcasing the Ioniq 5N. During our chat, we discussed a local charger that has been out of order for a year (https://lnkd.in/e6cW8xxp) — an unfortunate example of a "zombie" charger. It's visible but non-functional, frustrating users and fueling skepticism about charging reliability. In stark contrast, I visited the new Stevenage GRIDSERVE Forecourt today, which offers possibly the best charging experience available. With multiple high-speed chargers (the Ioniq peaked at 177kW!), on-site staff, canopies, accessible spaces, and amenities like Costa Coffee and an Amazon Little Fresh shop, it truly sets the standard. Even the out-of-order charger was clearly marked and scheduled for repair. We need to build confidence in our charging infrastructure, and the Charge Point Regulations that EVA England has championed will help ensure that EV drivers feel secure moving forward. I'm looking forward to seeing how these regulations unfold in the coming weeks and how Charge Point Operators (CPOs) adapt to meet our charging needs! Quick shout out to Oli Kirk, Rob Shaw and Gary Comerford for making the afternoon so enjoyable. The ambition of the ZEV mandate must be upheld, 14 NGOs, think tanks and campaign groups have told the Government. In a letter today, the groups call for no backtracking on the regulation, which is one of the UK’s single biggest carbon saving measures. The law has boosted the EV supply in the UK ahead of Europe and helped bring down prices for consumers. But the current uncertainty over the future of the mandate is putting investments at risk, particularly in the charging sector, they say. The current flexibilities provided to the car industry are enough. The Government should instead pursue targeted policies to boost public confidence and demand for EVs, the groups write. Read the letter signed by T&E UK, Greenpeace, EVA England, New AutoMotive, Electric Vehicles UK, FairCharge, Campaign for Better Transport, Green Alliance, Clean Cities, Social Market Foundation, Friends of the Earth, Climate Group, Onward and ClientEarth. https://lnkd.in/emxguR7A

Most petrol car drivers score just 2 out of 10 for EV knowledge Polling of petrol car drivers by YouGov for the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) has found a ‘poor’ level of knowledge of electric cars. When asked if 10 separate statements about electric vehicles (EVs) were true or false, more than half (57%) of petrol/diesel cars drivers got just 2 or less out of ten correct, with 90% scoring just five or less out of ten. Around a quarter (23%) got none correct. This is affecting drivers’ car choices, with people displaying a poor understanding of EVs being less likely to want their next car to be an EV. Drivers who scored two or less out of 10 were 11 times less likely to want their next car to be an EV than those who scored eight or more out of 10.
