🌟 Tackling maternity disparities: a critical step towards equity in care. This month, the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton launched the NIHR Challenge: Maternity Disparities consortium with a successful networking event. The Southampton-led collaboration is focused on improving care before and between pregnancies, addressing the disproportionate impact of maternal mortality on minoritised groups and those in disadvantaged areas. Members of the SCTU #EarlyDiagnosis team have been at the #OxCODE symposium on #cancer #EarlyDetection and prevention this week. Head of ED and Translation Research, Victoria Goss, presented a poster on the MODERNISED #ClinicalTrial which is evaluating a blood test to detect multiple cancers in their earliest stages. Meanwhile, Senior Trial Manager, Nicole Keyworth presented the NHS England #CancerVaccineLaunchPad, a ground-breaking programme to "match" cancer patients to trials of new #CancerVaccines. 🌟 Empowering Young Voices in Health Policy Development 📢 A group of remarkable teenagers from Southampton is calling on health leaders across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to collaborate with them to improve the health and well-being of young people. As participants in the Young Research Training Programme (YRTP) at the University of Southampton, these 15 young researchers developed 12 evidence-based policy recommendations. Their proposals—addressing issues such as tackling vaping, improving Sexual and Reproductive Education (SRE), and creating youth-led health campaigns—were presented at the Youth Assembly to over 90 professionals, including health boards, local authorities, and community organisations. 🎄 UoS-GOSH-UHS Partnership Secures IfLS HEIF Funding to Enhance Non-Invasive Foetal Autopsy Service 🎄 We are thrilled to announce the successful funding of our project, “XRHMS fPM Edition: Expanding X-ray Histology Management System to Meet Clinical PACS Integration Needs for Non-Invasive Foetal Post-Mortem Autopsies”. I am deeply honoured to share that I've been selected through a highly competitive process to receive funding from two prestigious grants within last three days: The NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre Education, Training and Career Development Fund and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grant. This is the 3rd grant that I have received since I joined my recent position 3 months back. My heartfelt thanks to my PI Prof. Myron Christodoulides who has been so supportive and encouraging throughout, University Hospital Southampton and the University of Southampton for their support & recognition. This funding will advance our work in vaccinology, antimicrobial resistance, biomedical sciences, and computational drug discovery.
