Trusted independent advisers providing support on digital connectivity, network infrastructure, 4G, 5G, IoT & TECS.
About us
We are a team of independent advisers providing guidance on a range of enabling technologies, variously described as digital connectivity, network infrastructure, telecoms, and enterprise IT. FarrPoint is proud to be a B Corporation. We advise on strategy, technology, procurement and implementation. We are a team of consulting technologists, economists and data scientists. We provide experience, expertise and complementary resource to clients in the public and private sectors. Our Story – as told by our Founders: When we set FarrPoint up, we three founders had a shared idea of technical advice and client service done well. We didn’t want to be a typical consultancy. We also shared deep personal convictions about the importance and impact of connectivity work. So, at FarrPoint, it’s all about a duty of care to clients and service users. If we get that right, profit and growth will follow. We take pride in the quality of the work, the impact of the work, and the way the work is delivered. By Andrew Muir & Richard Parkinson.

Can we learn anything from the Nordics when it comes to data centre developments? Andrew Muir went to Stockholm's #Datacenter Forum to find out how Scandinavians are reacting to the ongoing demand. Many attendees spoke of the challenges of finding a steady load for the excess heat, matching the heat supply with the demand, and constructing commercial models to make it work for all sides. Energy supply was also a common theme, with developers in Norway finding it harder to secure supply, Sweden being a bit easier outside metropolitan areas, and Finland being the easiest to secure capacity. Estonia and Lithuania, as slightly cheaper Baltic alternatives, were also target areas from some Nordic developers. There was a bit of a downbeat feeling about how the Nordics are preparing for AI. It’s a geography with relatively good power, good fibre connectivity, talented workforces, and a good digital ecosystem, yet there is disappointment that the region is not leading as it should. Thoughts were that better coordination and integration of industry resources were required, i.e. less fragmentation, and more policy direction to help drive this. In summary, a really interesting event in a growing industry which is dealing with lots of new technical developments to meet a known and sometimes speculative market need, which is under more external observation and regulation. The FarrPoint festive season has come early this year 🎄. We started off with a fantastic Christmas lunch with FarrPointers and their families to celebrate a year of exciting projects and achievements. And as part two, we had our Secret Santa exchange 🎅. As every year, we saw a few on-theme gifts like a whisky rack made from a telephone pole, lighthouse Christmas ornaments, and some silly surprises to keep us laughing. A perfect way to wrap up the year with festive cheer and great company! 🌟

Today FarrPoint launches its new connectivity study for Harlan County in Eastern #Kentucky, USA 🇺🇲. This new report, which estimates that improved broadband could bring benefits of over $70m for the local #Harlan economy, is very transferable to any rural area in the world. These areas often share similar challenges of depopulation, slow economic growth and difficulty deploying connectivity. This report, which was conducted in partnership with Kentucky’s Shaping Our Appalachian Region, Inc. (SOAR) and non-profit impact fund Connect Humanity, shows the importance of investing in #connectivity in rural areas. Have a read. Many town centres still struggle with poor mobile service and #Chester was one of them. Yes, 'WAS', because it's just been announced that it is getting a mobile connectivity boost. We're proud to have helped the Council identify poor signal areas, map optimal intervention locations & identify the best routes and technologies to do so. We believe that signal mapping on its own is not the solution - it's always about the 'so what' and 'what are we going to do about it'. And Chester did. Do you know any other towns/cities that could use a #mobile boost 📶 ? Let us know in the comments. News announcements on UKTIN https://lnkd.in/e9XWirSj With Mike Dugine, Dean Burrows

Today, the Digital Office for Scottish Local Government published findings from FarrPoint’s report on the National Telecare Landscape Review, covering 32 local authorities in Scotland. Gloucestershire County Council sought to understand its current position on #digital #connectivity – including both infrastructure and adoption. At FarrPoint, we used our Digital Connectivity Readiness Index (DCRI) framework to evaluate these connectivity metrics, highlighting key areas of strength and challenges across the region. The findings and recommendations from this study can now be used as an evidence base for the next Gloucestershire Digital Strategy. Read more about this project at https://lnkd.in/edrm_siR, or if you are interested in finding out what the Digital Connectivity Index is for your area, get in touch.

Last week, we took a moment to snap a photo with some of the team and our B Corp plaque to celebrate nearly one year of being B Corp certified. As one of just 85 Scottish businesses to achieve this certification, we're incredibly proud—and remain deeply committed to balancing purpose with profit. Being part of the B Lab UK community reinforces our dedication to making a positive impact on people and the planet. 🌍 If you would like to hear more about our journey to becoming a #BCorp, drop us a message. We’d be delighted to share our experience and support other businesses on their path to a more #sustainable future.
