🏗️ It was fantastic attending the Property Forum event organised by the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, where the focus was on how #culture is driving #regeneration in #Bradford 🏢. With Bradford set to celebrate its year of #culture in 2025 and the significant #regeneration happening within the city centre and its gateways, the event speakers— Matthew Dakin, Yaseen Mohammed, and Angela Blake—had much to share. Here are some key takeaways from the event: 🎭Matthew Dakin discussed ‘plans for city of culture and how the creative industries are thriving’: The creative industry is growing at twice the rate of other sectors, and with the Bradford 2025 programme brimming with culture and creativity, it’s predicted that next year will attract 3 million visitors to the city. We need to all capitalise on this opportunity and continue this legacy beyond 2025. 🏢 Yaseen Mohammed talked about ‘an effort to start connecting our gateways’: Little Germany (a hidden gem in Bradford), driven by Kamran Rashid from Impact Hub Bradford, which sits on the cusp of the city centre and the Southern Gateway, is seeing major regeneration. Some of Faum Architecture's projects such as Jinnah Park on Leeds Road and Wardley House were showcased on the big screen; showing how these projects will reshape Bradford’s urban landscape, connecting key areas to drive growth in the local economy. 📈 Angela Blake highlighted ‘Changing the narrative of Bradford and making it a positive place to invest’. Bradford is emerging as a key investment destination, with efforts underway to shift its national image. Angela proudly outlined plans for Darley Street Market, One City Park, City Village, and Bradford Live. 🌟Jamie Saunders discussed Bradford’s plans to showcase itself at UKREiiF 2025 in Leeds. 🙌 #Bradford Celebrating the #WorldCurryFestival: Honouring My Father's Legacy ❤️ Ten years ago, #Bradford hosted the World Curry Festival, and my late #father proudly took part, showcasing his amazing culinary skills. So, when Yaseen Mohammed invited me to the Gala Dinner at the Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds to celebrate the festival's return to Bradford, I was filled with a deep sense of #pride and #honour. It felt like a fitting way to continue my father's legacy. The event included familiar faces from Bradford's esteemed #restaurant scene—many of whom have elevated their #food to a national and international stage. Their success is a powerful inspiration for the #next #generation, showing that anything is possible with hard work, determination, and a passion to succeed. James Mason was a brilliant host, and the stage shone with insights from speakers including Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, Christa Ackroyd, Sarah Dear from Born Ugly, and Rachel Hallos from the NFU (National Farmers' Union). But the biggest #announcement of the night came from Shanaz Gulzar, representing the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture team, who pledged to collaborate and celebrate the World Curry Festival in Bradford #next #year! None of this would have been possible without the vision of Zulfi Karim DL. His passion for putting Bradford—and its #world-class food—on the #global #map was evident in every word he spoke. As many of you will agree, Bradford’s food scene is truly something to be proud of. Alongside sampling some #delicious #locally #sourced food, it was wonderful to catch up with familiar faces like Luqman Rashid (who, incidentally, is pictured with my father in the last photo), and to meet new people who share a deep #love for #curry and are doing incredible work in Bradford and beyond. So, here’s some #food for thought (excuse the pun)… As many of you know, food has always been a central part of my life. Growing up, I was fortunate to enjoy my father’s delicious creations—his #Pakistani #breakfasts were legendary! More than that, my father helped build a #strong #community of friends within the food industry. There was never a sense of competition, just a shared goal of creating what has become Bradford’s #rich and #diverse food culture. This is why the #WorldCurryFestival holds such significance for us all. It’s about more than just food—it’s about bringing people together, no matter their culture or background. Faum Architecture is proud to announce our involvement in Bradford’s #largest #outdoor #mural. FAUM were commissioned by The Leap, a non-profit organisation in #Bradford, to submit a planning application for an outdoor installation at the corner of the #Masonic #Hall (also known as the Connaught Rooms) on Manningham Lane in #Bradford. The Leap also engaged the highly acclaimed street artist Mohammed Ali MBE to create a striking new piece as part of their ‘#Fuelling #Futures’ campaign. The final artwork, which now adorns the wall of the Masonic Hall, serves as a vibrant visual narrative, seamlessly integrating iconic structures that symbolise the area’s #past, #present, and #aspirations for the #future. This project aims to capitalise on the high visibility and significant foot and vehicular traffic at this strategic location to promote the 'Fuelling Futures' campaign, which supports young people pursuing careers in #motorsports, #STEM, and the #arts. Historically, this site has hosted various advertisements, many of which were unlawful. However, this installation, backed by #Lewis #Hamilton's charity, Mission 44; Bradford Council; Bradford College and The Leap, now presents a #vibrant and #culturally #enriching artwork titled ‘Neon Intermission’. Mohammed Ali MBE hopes this piece will inspire future generations in Bradford while providing a stunning visual experience for all. With Bradford celebrating its appointment as the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture next year, this artwork aligns perfectly with the Bradford 2025 team's vision for #cultural #enrichment and #community #engagement. ❤️ Born and bred, and now working in Bradford, I am proud to say I love this city. ❤️ So, when I was invited to attend the launch of #Bradford’s #2025 #UK #City of #Culture Programme, I was certainly excited to hear what the 2025 team has planned for us all next year. The Great Victoria Hotel Bradford was packed with people eager to hear from some of Bradford’s most notable figures. Susan Hinchcliffe described 2025 as a “transformative year,” while Kersten England CBE’s words, “Be Bold, Be Brave, Be Bradford,” were met with applause. The excitement continued at the iconic St Georges Hall, Bradford where Creative Director Shanaz Gulzar gave us an inspiring rundown of the incredible #cultural #performances, #art #exhibitions, and other fantastic interventions lined up for this momentous year of culture. Names like the #Tate, #Dynamo, #David #Hockney, and even the #Brontës were mentioned during the programme launch. As much as I’m looking forward to hearing more about these famous names, I’m equally interested in how #2025 will leave a lasting #impact on #future #generations. It’s already clear that the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture is inspiring the younger generation. #Noor #Afasa, a young poet and member of the 2025 #Youth #Panel, captivated the audience with her beautiful and light-hearted #poetry, perfectly capturing the essence of Bradford’s rich heritage and cultural diversity. As the event drew to a close, one thing was certain—for us in Bradford, this is just the beginning of a truly great year ahead. ✨Growing up in #Bradford, I have been immensely proud to see #local businesses who started from very humble beginnings, become huge #success stories for the Bradford #business community and beyond. 🏆 So when I was invited by the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce to attend the Bradford Means Business Awards (#BMBA), I was delighted to reserve my spot on the table to #celebrate Bradford’s best in the business. The event was certainly a night of glitz, glamour but also a chance to hear some very heartwarming success stories from businesses in Bradford. The #food industry has always played a pivotal role in my life. With my late #father setting up his own well known restaurant in the 80s on Leeds Road, it was fantastic to hear that Bradford brands such as Regal Food, Adams Food and Seabrook Crisps all took home an award! Congratulations to them and all the other amazing award winners! Hearing some of the key driving forces to their achievements and the impact they have had on the local community was truly #inspiring. As well as the awards, it was great to catch up with some familiar faces such as Liz Wood, Rebecca Fitzgerald, Kersten England CBE, ASMA B., Jagjeet Jandu, Lucy Taylor and many more. It wonderful to meet some new faces, such as Olivia Fitzgerald who kept me company at dinner as she discussed her plans for her new business venture. As well as the Youth development team from Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture. #Speed #Networking. Has anyone tried it? Well, it was our first time yesterday, and we loved it! RTC North invited us to celebrate the 3-day #STEMFestYorkshire event by attending a #WomeninSTEM 'speed' networking event at The Life Centre in #Bradford. With drinks and nibbles provided, the room was packed with women from #engineering, #planning, #data, #business, #education and #architecture backgrounds. The rules were simple. We were asked to sit opposite someone and had 2 minutes to introduce ourselves and our work in the industry. Given just a few minutes to talk about us was a bit of a challenge, but it was fantastic to hear from such a wonderful range of professional #women who work in the #STEM industry. There were a few of us so deep in conversation that we did not hear the announcement to shuffle around to the next person! It was 90 minutes well spent, and the time flew by so quickly that we only managed to get a few pictures at the end! We think 'speed networking' is the future! What do you think? We were in #Manchester this week to attend the Housing 2024 conference. The sun was shining in what is usually known as ‘rainy’ Manchester. With the weather on our side, we headed to our first event, organized by Constructive Futures, at Flokk UK. Natalie Sarabia-Johnston chaired a panel discussion on the future of housing. On the panel, we had Megan Turpin, Rachel Glover White and Audley English MBE, FRSA, AA Dipl, RIBA, who shared their insights into how we should be designing homes for the future that are #sustainable in the long term. It was great meeting some #AEC students from various local universities and colleges and hearing about their future career aspirations. We then headed over to the #Manchester #Convention #Centre to take a look at some innovative products and services that could be used in the housing market. At the Ermen Systems Ltd stand, we learned about how their innovative technologies in lighting are creating healthier homes by reducing mould and bacteria. Our ‘eyes’ couldn’t help being drawn to the Mobysoft stand. As we talked social data analytics, the crowds also flocked to the stand to have a picture of their eye taken. A great way to get people to stop and visit the stand, we think! And lastly, like any place we visit, we couldn't help taking a few shots of the wonderful #architecture, #streetscape, and #boutique shops in Manchester. We loved how the modern meets old in a city which is filled with culture, heritage and vibrancy.
