8.4 million people in the UK are experiencing food insecurity. There are numerous and often complex reasons why this happens, it impacts people of every age, from all social backgrounds. Feeding Families was founded and is based in the North East of England, with 2 packing centres, one in Byers Green, Spennymoor and the other in Gateshead. The charity started by bringing communities together at Christmas. Families and individuals in need are linked by the charity to donors who collect food for hampers for the festive period. The charity now runs projects throughout the year. Our 'Emergency Food Boxes' provide food that will support 2 people for 3 days. We need a constant supply of food so we can support those in need in our local communities. Sometimes we feel that the little we can do, will have no impact, but your support, will make a huge difference.

Not your average Monday morning, started my week with a breakfast networking event at Feeding Families (UK) & North East Chamber of Commerce and attended by NE businesses and charities. Kim McGuinness Juliet Sanders Libby Malcolm and Sarah McPhie also launched the charities Christmas campaign with a compelling call to action to help them raise a whopping £213.7K to fill 8,500 Christmas food boxes destined for families impacted by food insecurity. It’s a mountain the climb but it can be done with your help! Mayor calls for action to support families in need “Feeding Families demonstrates the compassionate, pragmatic and creative thinking we need to help more families. By partnering with community organisations like Feeding Families we can help families in the here and now, and make sure they find the support they need to get back on their feet and thrive.” North East mayor Kim McGuinness is urging businesses and residents to join efforts to support thousands of families facing food insecurity this Christmas. Her appeal came at a Feeding Families (UK) and North East Chamber of Commerce event, with the charity launching a £213,700 Festive Campaign to provide food boxes and support packages to over 8,500 families and individuals in need. All the excitement kicked off bright and early at 8am today when our incredible partner, Durham Box Company, arrived with an HGV loaded with 32 pallets of Christmas flat-pack boxes. As our charity partner, they’ve kindly produced and delivered these to support our holiday efforts. I won’t deny that driving the forklift was a bit of fun! albeit a little stressful (cockpit view) But after an hour and a half of unloading, everything is now neatly in place and ready for our big Christmas packing event starting on November 28th. Huge thanks to Durham Box Company for their ongoing support!
