As UK and global food supply chains face complex challenges, the role of collaborative research is becoming increasingly important to finding solutions for sustainable food supply, Fera’s R&D model, Enigma, brings together scientific experts and agri-food industry leaders to deliver research and practical insights, to support against key threats to supply chain resilience. Here’s how the projects are making a difference: 🥕 Enigma I: Supporting the horticultural and arable sectors through research into the development of sustainable Wireworm control. 🍅 Enigma II: Working with project partners to develop improved detection methods of Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (TBRFV). 🔬 Enigma III: Supporting the development of food safety standards for controlled farming environments. 🥔 Enigma IV: Provides research towards improving current predictive diagnostics for infield identification of Tobacco Rattle Virus (TRV). 🌱 Enigma V: Researching alternative methods to protecting OSR crops against the increasing threat of Cabbage Stem Flea Beetles. A loss of cross-sector collaboration in recent years has led to the slowing of progress required to tackle large-scale challenges. R&D models such as Enigma, however, are setting a new standard, with collaboration and agri-food industry experts, the driving force behind the research.
