  • One in Five Businesses Boost Family-Friendly Benefits 👶🏢 In 2024, we saw a remarkable shift in how businesses support their employees, particularly regarding family-friendly provisions and sick pay 🚼💼. According to a recent survey by Incomes Data Research (IDR), almost one in five (18%) businesses enhanced their paternity pay or leave policies. Another 16% plan to follow suit in 2025 📊📆. The changes reflect a broader trend spurred by the proposed updates in the employment rights bill currently making its way through parliament 📜🏛️. This bill aims to strengthen employee protections by improving statutory sick pay (SSP) and introducing day-one rights for paternity, parental, and bereavement leave 🚸🙌. These measures could ensure better support for families and a fairer workplace environment 🏠⚖️. However, while employer-led initiatives are promising, many argue that more substantial government action is necessary 🏛️🔍. Enhanced paternity leave should not be limited to those working for financially robust companies 🤔📉. Every family deserves access to adequate leave and pay, regardless of the parents' employer or salary 👨👩👦👦💸. The current statutory framework in the UK, offering just two weeks of poorly compensated leave, is far from sufficient and lags behind many other European countries 🌍🇪🇺.
