📅 Yesterday, our Muslim Network hosted a webinar for Islamophobia Awareness Month, with Zara Mohammed, the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain. Zara lent her invaluable insights on a range of topics, namely, how islamophobia can manifest, addressing common misconceptions, facts and figures about the Global and UK-based Muslim populations and shared her advice on how to be an effective ally to Muslim colleagues. It was great to hear how passionate Zara is about community change, empowering young people, and improving diversity and inclusion. The theme for Islamophobia this year is “Seeds of Change”, which aims to explore how small actions can lead to significant change. #IslamophobiaAwarenessMonth #IslamophobiaAwarenessMonth2024 #SeedsOfChange

🤖🛡️ Artificial Intelligence (AI) regulation milestone: What businesses need to know! In September 2024, the world took a major step toward responsible AI with the Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence – the first legally binding international AI treaty. Key takeaways: • Legal alignment: The UK will need to align its national legislation with the principles of the treaty, which include human dignity, transparency, accountability, equality, privacy, and reliability. • Regulatory framework: The Private Members’ Bill currently in the House of Lords will (if passed) provide a framework for further AI regulation in the UK, suggesting more detailed regulations may follow. • Compliance requirements: Organisations will need to comply with both the new national regulations and the EU AI Act, which comes into effect in February 2025. Initially this includes adhering to requirements on AI literacy and prohibitions on certain AI use cases. • International cooperation: The treaty represents a step towards greater international cooperation on AI regulation, potentially influencing global standards and practices. These changes aim to ensure that AI development and deployment are conducted responsibly and ethically, protecting human rights, and promoting trust in AI technologies. 💡 Fieldfisher's Chris Eastham takes us through the implications of the Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence for the UK, here: https://ow.ly/3K8b50UbGpi #FCAI #EUAIAct #AIAct #AIRegulation #TechReg #TechnologyRegulation #LegalInsights

💡 Do you know what information you need to provide when responding to data subject access requests (DSARs) involving automated decision-making? If you're a controller using automated decision-making, you must provide clear and meaningful information about the decision-making process, including the logic and consequences. Even if the process is complex, "complexity is no excuse" for failing to explain it clearly to the data subject. Here are the key takeaways from the recent Opinion of Advocate General in Case C-203/22 on related to automated creditworthiness assessments: 1. Meaningful information: You must help data subjects understand how decisions are made, enabling them to challenge or request human intervention. Information should be simple intelligible, clear, and concise – no need to disclose algorithms, but you can share technical details voluntarily. 2. Limits to information: While data subjects have the right to know, the protection of trade secrets and third-party data may limit the level of detail you need to provide. In these cases, a supervisory authority or court can help decide what’s necessary. Read more about 'What constitutes "meaningful information" about automated decision-making?' from Fieldfisher experts, Hazel Grant and Anna Rawlinson 👉 https://ow.ly/CuYQ50UaMab #GDPR #DataPrivacy #Data #AI #AutomatedDecisions #DataRights #Tech #TechAndData #DSARs

📅 Fieldfisher's international AI webinar series continues! Following the success of parts one and two of our International Data and Privacy Team's webinar series, part three continues with the session 'AI regulatory enforcement: same as GDPR or worse?' In this session we will delve into the enforcement of the AI Act: Which regulatory bodies will be responsible for enforcing the AI Act? Will they be the same in all Member States? And how will they work together? We will not only provide answers to all these questions but will highlight what we have experienced from the enforcement of the GDPR so far – from a willingness to communicate with organisations to strict enforcement and sanctions – and attempt to predict to what extent the enforcement of the AI Act might be comparable. Guests will also gain knowledge about the potential fines and the status of the AI Office. Your speakers and key contacts for this session are Dr. Felix Wittern, Celin Fischer, LL.M. and Carolin Wagner. Click 'View event' below and register using the 'Event link'.
