£11.4 BILLION 💸 stolen in #scams. #Fraud is an epidemic in the U.K. Everyone needs to do better: ✏️ Public education and awareness 🧑💻 Accountability from the sources 🎛️ Robust #banking controls 👮Better regulations EVERYONE needs to work together and collaborate - it’s what the #fraudsters do. We must beat them at their own game. Find out how the team at FinCrime Dynamics are using cutting edge technology, #syntheticdata and #financialcrime expertise to make a dent in this fight 🥷 #scamhunter
🚨 £11.4 Billion Stolen from the UK in One Year – New Report Out Now 🚨 The Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), in partnership with Cifas, has published the 2024 State of Scams in the United Kingdom report, shining a spotlight on the growing threat of fraud and its impact on Britons. 📊 Key findings include: 🔹£11.4 billion lost to scams in 2024, equal to 0.4% of the UK’s GDP. 🔹Only 18% of victims were able to recover their losses—a 15% drop from last year. 🔹71% of scams go unreported, reflecting frustration with reporting processes and distrust in law enforcement. 🔹Shopping scams remain the most common, while investment scams continue to rise. 🔹Scammers are increasingly using AI-driven tools to craft convincing emails, texts, and even voice and video manipulations, highlighting the urgent need for better fraud prevention measures. Despite these challenges, there’s hope: The UK appointed its first Fraud Minister, Lord Hanson, and introduced new rules mandating 50:50 reimbursement for victims of Authorised Push Payment (APP) fraud. These are positive steps, but as Mike Haley, CEO of Cifas, points out: “Scams are not just about financial loss—they erode trust and confidence. Tackling this crisis requires collaboration, innovation, and leadership across industries.” Jorij Abraham, Managing Director of GASA, noted: “Scams are a global problem, but by working together, we can turn the tide and protect individuals and businesses.” 📥 Download the report now to explore the findings and recommendations: https://lnkd.in/ejeqj6jb #StateofScams #FraudPrevention #GASA #Research #UnitedKingdom #Britain #Crime #DigitalTrust #FinancialServices

HM Treasury published The National Payments Vision outlining the government’s plans for UK’s #payments sector. 🔦 Key Highlights: 💡Innovation: "developments in next-generation technologies like distributed ledger technologies and #ArtificialIntelligence as well as enhanced #datasharing have potential to fundamentally alter the ecosystem. The UK must act quickly to seize the opportunities of the future, or risk falling behind international peers" 💡Regulation: "The regulatory framework must be clear, predictable and proportionate...regulation should support growth and unlock investment – this requires our regulators to coordinate better to manage their collective impact on the sector" 💡Infrastructure: "Resilient infrastructure that supports #innovation is a pre-requisite to a healthy ecosystem and is essential for trust, but upgrading the UK’s 9 retail payments infrastructure has been slow and challenging 💡Open Banking: "It is crucial that seamless account-to-account payments – enabling consumers to pay for goods and services in shops and online directly from their bank account – are developed" 💡 Consumer Protection: "The Vision outlines the continued need to maintain high standards of consumer protection and ensure people and businesses can make payments efficiently and safely. To further build the effectiveness of payments #fraud regulation, the FCA will lead work to manage existing overlaps between itself and the Payment Systems Regulator, and the PSR has committed to an independent post implementation review of the #APPfraud reimbursement rules, after 12 months" Link to the full article in comments below
