  • 🔥 As F!RE DOOR SAFTEY WEEK draws to a close… 🔥 This year, the British Woodworking Federation’s Fire Door Safety Week campaign, focuses on the theme ‘A False Sense of Safety’. The campaign has aimed to bridge the gap between perceived safety and actual fire risk, encouraging the public to engage in fire safety awareness and report any fire door issues, regardless of location or the assumption that fire safety is someone else’s responsibility. The BWF conducted a survey of 2,000 adults and found that despite an 18% increase in fire across NHS trusts – averaging nearly four fires daily – 52% of people still consider hospitals the safest due to their fire prevention measures. For more information on the BWF survey and this week’s campaign, please head over to https://lnkd.in/eMURFdvj …let’s all work together to help create a real sense of safety. • 🔥 F!RE DOOR SAFTEY WEEK – Day 4 🔥 🛠️ FIRE DOOR MAINTENANCE 🛠️ Regular maintenance is critical to making sure that your fire doors remain effective in preventing the spread of fire and smoke. Here are five things that you can check to help ensure your fire door is safe and compliant with the latest regulations. + CERTIFICATION – look for a label, a plug, or similar marking to show that the fire door is certificated and follow the instructions. All ironmongery such as locks, latches, closers, and hinges must be CE marked, and be compatible with the door leaf’s certification. + APERTURES – altering the door for glazing apertures and air transfer grilles will make certification void. + GAPS & SEALS – check the gap around the door frame is constant at 3-4mm, and CE marked hinges are firmly fixed with no missing screws. Ensure seals are fitted at the top and sides of the door. + CLOSERS – check that the closer shuts the door onto the latch from any position – check from 75mm from the closed position. + OPERATION – ensure the door closes correctly around all parts of the frame. • 🔥 F!RE DOOR SAFTEY WEEK – Day 2 🔥 🔎 FIRE DOOR INSPECTIONS 🔎 The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 (Regulation 10) require that, if the top storey of the building is above 11m in height, flat entrance doors should be checked by the responsible person at least every 12 months, and fire doors in communal areas every 3 months. Fire Doors are installed in so many different types of buildings, not just public spaces such as hospitals, schools and universities, retail and entertainment complexes, but also care homes and residential properties with multiple occupancies, such as high-rise buildings. The nature of these environments mean that the doors receive a huge amount of use, making them susceptible to regular wear, tear, and damage, which in turn compromises the quality of fire protection they provide. This all adds up to the requirement of regular inspections to ensure the buildings are compliant with fire safety regulations and that the fire doors are effective as they need to be. Fire Doors should be checked at least once every 12 months, and if the door is in a high-traffic area they should be checked more regularly e.g. at least once every 3 months.
