As part of our work within the Middle East and new partnership-building in the region, it was a pleasure to meet officials from the Saudi Ministries of Education and Health as part of the UK-Saudi SEN Schools Workshop. We look forward to working with more clients in the Kingdom and to expanding our relationships with schools and other organisations. Thanks to Thea Wiltshire and her team at the Department for Business and Trade for organising.

At Firefly Education London, we often talk to parents who don’t know where to start or what questions to ask, or who to ask questions about their child’s needs and how to make sure they are getting the education support needed. We offer consultation phone calls to parents to discuss the types of schools available, things to consider when searching for childcare, among other topics. If your child is struggling, has recently been diagnosed, you wondering about your options or where to seek help. Firefly Education London is happy to have an hour phone call, with an agreed agenda to talk through your worries and options. Please DM to set a call.

Firefly Education London reposted this
We have decided to have an extended Christmas break to focus on spending time with family who are visiting from the US, which also coincides with the end of the Independent School Term. We will close from the 9th of December until the 7th of January. If you are in need to a 1:1 for a January start, or need to embark on an SEN School Search, please get in touch ASAP, so we can devote time to this now and get to work on it in advance of the break.

I had the the pleasure of visiting St George’s School, Edinburgh’, talking with Joanne H., Admissions Registrar, Sonia Edwards, the Deputy Head, Academics and two lovely 6th formers, who showed me around the campus. Coming from London, the space struck me. The campus is large, with a lot of land with space for sports fields as well as specialist subject buildings. One of the girls who gave me a tour had just taken her singing exams a few hours before my arrival. She felt positive about the performance, although she didn’t know the results yet. I was lucky enough to be able to stick my head into a full dress rehearsal of their Beauty and the Beast production. The singing, music and costumes were phenomenal. The school is proudly a girl’s school and doesn’t see that changing any time soon. They are known for STEM, with many girls taking uppers and further uppers in STEM and continuing that on in university. 600 girls attend St George’s from ages 3 to 18 The school looks at the girls as individuals, who all need and want different things For SEN children there is support for the very start until leaving. 45% of the girls have exam access arrangements in place 99% of the girls go on to first choice university 90% of all girls play sport in their time The arts are also well supported with music, theatre, and studio arts, as evidenced by the aforementioned production. Most girls are day pupils, with about 50 boarding from overseas and other parts of the UK. The school boasts a strong pastoral care programme, with form tutors, heads of year staying with girls for several years as they move through different stages. It is a stunning school with a passion for making education personalised for the girls who attend, and a strong emphasis on creativity and individuality within a strong school community.

For many children, trick-or-treating is a highlight of the season—a time for sweets, and a little bit of spookiness. However, for children with SEN, planning the perfect Halloween night may require a touch more preparation and thoughtfulness. https://lnkd.in/eqGxgadN
