🔸New Project – Sunlight House, Manchester 🔸 We are thrilled to be working on a #NetZero in-use, Grade A office space. Helping retrofit Manchester’s original skyscraper. Sunlight House is a historic 14 Story Grade II listed building erected in 1932 from steel and concrete, clad in Portland Stone. Today, our #MEP and #Sustainability team are working alongside a fantastic crew to retrofit and refurbish the internal aspects of this iconic building into high-quality and contemporary office spaces whilst maintaining its unique #heritage aesthetic. The focus being on sustainability, with a net zero design and high-tech technology; providing a unique and dynamic working space nestled in Spinningfields, Manchester. A few more months to go to see this sustainable new office development and 2-bedroom flat come to fruition. The project consists of... 🔸A zero carbon, ultra-low energy footprint office development, employing a “fabric first” approach to building design. 🔸Offices heating and cooling strategy using a reversible heat pump, changeover system either supply heat or cooling. 🔸Thermally Activated Building Structure (TABS). 🔸Offices are to be fitted out to a Cat.B standard. 🔸A design that will result in a significant biodiversity net gain within the site and provide a valuable stepping stone for wildlife within an urban environment. ✴ Project Completion ✴ It’s great to see another project come to completion. Our Building Services Engineering team worked hard on all the #MEP developments on the beautiful reception refurbishment at 125 Old Broad Street. The impressive building stands out prominently in London's skyline, situated within the City of London amidst financial institutions. 🏢 The main issue with the old reception space was complaints of it being cold.  Upon our investigations we established that there was an air leakage path from the linking Café space.  This along with poorly performing entrance ways were causing cold air to dump into the space, being particularly severe in the winter months.  🌟 The new reception offers occupiers and guests a brand-new sense of arrival that provides an optimal experience. The details in the space include new feature ceilings, LED lighting throughout with new Lighting Control System, new break out space with coffee bar, new revolving doors, new speed gates, new external lighting including planter lighting and adaptions to the mechanical systems including BMS graphic updates to improve comfort. 👏 FLATT Internship 👏 👷🏾♀️Introducing Elissa Luo, our wonderful 2024 Intern who recently completed a 4-month #Internship programme with us. Elissa gained experience in various departments and received mentorship within our Sustainability and Building Services Engineering teams. 🟠Were the projects you worked on interesting and challenging? "I really enjoyed the tasks I was given, considering my level of understanding in electrical and mechanical engineering. I really enjoyed the carbon calculations for FLATT’s carbon footprint, as well as making the presentation for it. Doing CAD on my last day was also really fun, and familiar to me as it’s closer to what I normally do." 🟠What are your career goals moving forward, and how has this internship influenced them? "I still need to finish my Undergraduate Degree in Architecture, but this experience helped me get an idea of what kind of job I am looking for in the future. I got to see what my skills are, and what skills need to be developed over the next few years of my studies and in my next placement." 🟠Would you recommend this internship program to other students? "I would recommend this internship to my peers, especially if they were reconsidering architecture and thinking about going MEP and Sustainable Design instead. 📣 Royal Mint Gardens, Aparthotel gets the go-ahead! We are very proudly working on the development of a vibrant 14 story mixed-use building consisting of 463 hotel guest rooms and 79 high-end residential dwellings. Situated close to the Tower of London; Royal Mint Gardens Aparthotel will be a Net Zero Carbon scheme utilising high efficiency heat pumps with an internal thermal energy sharing network. Our MEP team are engaged in all other significant MEP development works throughout this large project. We are targeting a BREEAM Excellent Rating – a true example of combining innovative engineering with sustainability. ✴ Project Completion ✴ We are now thrilled to announce that the hospitality suite, residences and clubhouse, situated trackside of the Silverstone Circuit, is now complete. From concept to completion, this project was a masterpiece of intuitive engineering and design. Our team had the privilege to be a part of the Escapade Silverstone journey to fruition. It saw the FLATT team trackside on one of the best motorsports circuits in the world. Sustainability was at the forefront of this project with high efficiency heat pumps throughout all residences and clubhouse.
