Yesterday, Dr Mark Else (Niab) Dr Jim Stevens (InnoPhyte Consulting) and me, visited FlexFarming. FlexFarming, I believe, is the only commercial #TCEA strawberry farm, that is actually growing #strawberries for fruiting and selling the produce!!! Ahmad Mohseni hosted us, alongside with Muhammad Faseh Tarar, while we had the opportunity to briefly see Gosh (super experienced agronomist with an amazing sense of humour and directness!!) and Grant Critcher, the head behind Agri SGJ Ltd and AGRI FRUIT LIMITED where FlexFarming co-locates its facilities. I cannot tell you too much now about what we are cooking, but something will be live in Jan that involves various partners. But you can see from the pictures that we had loads of fun! 🤩 I am very excited to work with FlexFarming and all the team behind, and hopefully this collab is the first of many. My recent market visit to #Australia has been eye-opening, shedding light on the dynamics of the strawberry supply chain. While the ability to produce strawberries year-round meets domestic demand, it’s clear that industry development has been shaped by the country’s vast size and varied climate. Open-field production dominates, leading to less adoption of protected cropping and innovative techniques. As a result, variety selection often prioritizes resilience over taste. Changing weather patterns and suboptimal growing conditions further challenge growers, leaving consumers with limited access to better-tasting varieties. Add in the long distances strawberries travel, often picked before fully ripened, and it’s no wonder the final product lacks the indulgence and experience that strawberries are known for. Perhaps this is why #Aussies don’t seem as excited about strawberries as #Brits? 🤔 At FlexFarming , we aim to change this narrative.
