“I am a single dad on the move with my two children. There was one terrifying night we were forced back into Bosnia in a push-back. In the process all mine and my children’s things were taken from us. “As we returned to Sarajevo we had very little in our possession to protect us from the freezing February weather. With nothing left, I was desperate to find help. Especially for my children. “Thankfully, someone gave me the contact of an organisation offering support to refugees. With relief I messaged them and the very next day we met. “The organisation was a charity called Collective Aid. The people were so kind and gave me and my children essential things like warm clothing and blankets to help protect us from the terrible weather. “Their help made a huge difference giving us much needed warmth but also a sense of dignity. “This help is a lifeline to families like mine navigating this very difficult journey. Despite the hardships, Collective Aid gave me the hope and the strength to continue.” * * * * * At forRefugees your generosity makes this possible as every donation to forRefugees supports NGOs like Collective Aid so that families like this find compassion and life-saving care when they need it most. Right now you can DOUBLE your impact. Every donation you make to forRefugees before Tuesday 10th December at noon will be matched by The Big Give (or until match funding has finished). Could you survive on £7 a day? 🛒 What can £7 actually buy? 😞 What do you put back when there's no money left? 🤔 Could you make those sacrifices every single day? Here in the U.K. asylum seekers are expected to cover food, toiletries, transport, phone top-ups and anything else they would need. Impossible choices are their reality. We call for asylum seekers' #RightToWork and appropriate support for those who can't.

You can see by the big smiles in the photos that people have been beautiful and the forRefugees partner projects inspiring. We went from project to project feeling more and more impressed by endless energy, commitment and the amazing difference being made. But behind these smiles is a dark reality for tens of thousands of people here in Greece. Can you imagine being so unwanted in the world that no one cares where you are or how you’re suffering, as long as you’re out of sight and not living in their street? What you’ve been through, the help you need, your hopes and dreams… all irrelevant. You’re just a dehumanised number and no one wants any numbers in their country, city, street, workplace or school. Do we even know why we don’t want anyone? Aren’t compassion, empathy and kindness human traits, European values, religious teachings, international law? Why are we finding them so damn hard to practice in reality? We were genuinely gutted to hear many times about the new services NGOs desperately want to open (because they’re urgently needed) but instead they’re being forced to reduce services, stop paying their teams, let people go. Because there’s not enough money being donated any more. This is a protracted human crisis and people want to give to new crisis (with the world giving us plenty of choice right now). But every new crisis - when the bombs drop, when the floods and famines come, when the oppression deepens - people leave their homes and become refugees. Many come to Europe. From Lebanon to Syria, Syria to Türkiye, Türkiye to Greece, Greece to…… 🚶🏾♀️🚶🏽🚶🏿♂️🌍🧡. There’s nowhere else for them to go. We must help.
