Interesting news regarding the proposed Lower Thames Crossing – a new 23km tunnel connection, which is predicted to add £40 billion to the UK economy. The proposed infrastructure is nationally significant and aims to create robust road connections between the North, Midlands and the Short Straights (where over half of all goods traded between UK and EU are transported). However, the Government's decision on whether to proceed with the project has been delayed until early next year. National Highways estimates that the proposed Lower Thames Crossing will provide a vital new route for freight, connecting Southeast ports with some of the UK’s biggest manufacturers and distribution hubs. The changes would double road capacity and bring down transit times for inbound and outbound trade. This, coupled with the ongoing innovation in the UK logistics landscape will drive efficiency in the supply chain. https://lnkd.in/eDA6dyvc #LowerThamesCrossing #TransitTimes #RoadFreight

According to figures released by motor industry association SMMT new heavy vehicle registration figures for quarter three included 10,839 HGVs hitting UK roads between July and September. There is optimism about zero-emission truck uptake because the UK has the second biggest market for them by volume in Europe. But registrations almost halved in Q3, -47.1% below 2023 with a market share of 0.5%, down from 0.8% last year. The SMMT reports that operators continue to face significant barriers to making the switch on a larger scale, such as a Plug-in Truck Grant which does not give access to every vehicle on the new HGV market, as well as an absence of public and shared hub chargepoints. Addressing these two issues would begin to make a difference. Read the full details https://lnkd.in/eCbm3ptM

Kim Croall is one of our Software Support, the team that ensures everything is working as it should, across our software and customer base. Kim and her colleagues answer any and all ticketing queries as they come through from customers, ensuring they receive solutions to any issues as promptly as possible. Having been with us since 2016, Kim has seen a lot during her time with the company, from Brexit to COVID-19, but ultimately she loves her job: “When I first joined the team welcomed me with open arms, answering any questions I had, and they were very eager to share their knowledge with me to help me grow in my new role. I quickly realised the team were incredibly talented and that I could learn so much from them. It was a fantastic start at the company. “I’ve learned a lot since then and have continued to grow more and more confident in my role. Something that I think has helped me develop is that I’m not micro-managed, my team and my manager have faith in me that I will get the work done and allow me to work independently.” #MeetTheTeam #Freight #CustomerService

A recent article discusses the resilience the air cargo sector has demonstrated - with double-digit demand growth, according to Xeneta’s analysis. This was due to: - supply chain disruptions - e-commerce expansion - shifts from ocean to air freight. The trend signals heightened anticipation for Q4, traditionally the busiest period for global logistics. The summer growth was largely driven by supply chain imbalances, where supply grew at a meagre 2% YoY, failing to keep pace with escalating demand. Xeneta states that e-commerce has been a key driver in this expansion, particularly exports of low-value goods from China. Check out the full article below. #AirFreight #Q4PeakSeason

A recent Motor Transport article is calling on the government to place the Logistics sector at the heart of its economic growth plans - after the publication of the government’s industrial strategy, which fails to list logistics in its list of eight growth-driving sectors. The green paper, titled "Invest 2035: The UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy", sets out the stall for Labour’s industrial strategy. It focuses primarily on those sectors the government believes offer the largest growth areas for the economy and business. Michelle Gardner, Logistics UK Deputy Director of Policy, said: “Logistics is one of the UK’s key foundational sectors and must be prioritised as such in the final version of the Industrial Strategy to be published in Spring 2025. “The efficiency of the logistics sector and productivity of the economy are completely intertwined. With appropriate investment, policy changes and the right partnerships with government, the logistics sector could provide a boost of up to £7.9bn per year to the UK’s GDP in productivity gains by 2030: this must be reflected in the Industrial Strategy and forthcoming trade and infrastructure strategies.” What is your take on the issue at hand? Should the logistics sector be front and centre in any successful industrial strategy? Let us know by commenting below. #Labour #Logistics #Industry

The relationship between Baxter Freight and Forward Solutions goes back to the former's inception in 2014. That means that over the last 10 years, we have provided Baxter Freight with the technological solutions necessary for the company to run its business around the globe. We have supported Baxter Freight through the various stages of its development - working closely to provide the bespoke solutions required, to match their growth plans. Gary Sawle, Head of IT at Baxter Freight, sees Forward Solutions as being the number one choice for freight solutions. “We utilise road, air and sea freight, customs, EDI and ASP modules from Forward Solutions. Customisable modules were important for us, as a new business as we had to consider if a technology partner would be able to help us to achieve our growth plans which were already in place. “It came down to the configurability of the work, the CRM and operational features that were available to us, which made Forward Solutions a clear choice for us." #CustomerCaseStudy #Freight #Customs
