This afternoon (7 November 2024), the Bank of England (BoE) made the decision to cut rates by 0.25% down to 4.75%. The rate cut is within expectations for markets, coming off a decision to hold at the last meeting in September. Following this month’s rate cut, the BoE has signalled it’s unlikely we will see further movements this year as forecasts suggest Rachel Reeves’ budget would increase inflationary pressure on the UK economy. Our Head of investments, Mashud Rahman, Chartered MCSI explains more in his latest blog, which you can read here: https://lnkd.in/eVEWsh34 #bankofengland #rates #interestrates #markets #investments #financialplanning #investing #budget #autumnbudget

On Wednesday 6th November 2024 Donald J Trump become the 47th President elect of the United States of America. US stock markets took the news very well, the S&P 500 closed up 2.53%. NASDAQ up 3.57% and the Russel 2000 up 5.84%. Alongside positive market growth, a Trump presidency is expected to be inflationary. Our Head of investments, Mashud Rahman, Chartered MCSI shares his thoughts on what this could mean for the markets, following yesterday's election. Following yesterday’s Autumn Budget our Head of investments, Mashud Rahman, Chartered MCSI has shared his thoughts. “Rachel Reeve’s Autumn Budget, while being significant for those of us who are resident in the UK, had limited impact on global markets. The UK based FTSE All share spent most of the day flat, finishing 0.82% down for the day. However, following on from the Chancellor’s announcements on the change in tax relief on AIM listed shares, the FTSE AIM market had a very different reaction. Following the announcement, the FTSE AIM 100 jumped up 4% and held these higher levels to finish the day up 4.31%*. Bond markets didn’t react quite so well on the other hand. The announcement of increased levels of government borrowing caused gilt yields to rise, 10 year gilts up to 4.52%, and the two year yield to 4.53%*. Thursday (31 October) witnessed a sell off in gilt markets as they adjust to the news. The heightened yields and fall in bond prices suggest that markets may begin to price in a slower rate of interest rate cuts than was expected. This means it may take a little longer for us to see interest rates come down to target levels, although much remains uncertain at this stage. The Pound dipped for a while in the lead up to and shortly after the Budget. However, it has since rebounded. The main concern for markets remains in the gilt yields. At Francis Clark financial planning, we continue to maintain a global view towards investment management and continue highlight the importance of maintaining a well diversified portfolio, to provide the greatest chance to weather all types of market conditions.” Our in-house experts have shared their view on the budget here https://lnkd.in/e2iTwJTW *Source: Financial Times #autumnbudget #investments #financialplanning #financialportfolios #budget #chancellor

Today, Chancellor Rachel Reeves presented her first Budget to update the public on the state of the UK economy, whilst announcing plans for the upcoming year. The Government plans to include pensions in estates for inheritance tax (IHT) from April 2027. This change is controversial and could significantly increase the tax burden on many estates, especially affecting unmarried couples. In his latest blog, our Senior chartered financial planner, Lyndon Massey explains what this means, what are the remedies, and what happens next.
