"Let's control what we can control" - Matthew Field A comment that captures the Fraud Advisory Panel's practical approach to equipping SMEs and charities to fight fraud. Making leaders aware of the control they have over fraud prevention and response was a critical theme of Belfast's Charity Fraud Awareness Week event. Harbinson Mulholland Chartered Accountants were delighted to host a breakfast for leaders from the third sector. We were also joined by Martin Dubbey and Dr Ruth McAlister who shared their investigative expertise and discussed the role of technology in fraud detection. #fraudawareness #fraud #stopcharityfraud

Fraud Advisory Panel reposted this
Charity Fraud Awareness Week took place this week; an initiative led by the Fraud Advisory Panel in collaboration with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Its purpose was to address fraud and cybercrime by increasing awareness and promoting best practices. The latest Charity Fraud Report 2024, produced by BDO and the Fraud Advisory Panel, reveals that nearly half of charities had experienced actual or attempted fraud in the preceding year. Almost all of these organisations suffered financial losses as a result. Over half of the fraud incidents were committed by internal perpetrators, highlighting a persistent challenge within the sector. We were proud to have been part of this important initiative, with Ashley Fairbrother co-presenting a successful case study where the perpetrators of fraud against Macmillan Cancer Support were recently brought to justice - demonstrating the vital role of private prosecutions in combatting fraud. #privateprosecutions #charityfraud #stopcharityfraud #cybercrime
