🔌Are you expecting to have new electrical power needs in and around Felixstowe or Harwich in the next 10 years? If so, then Freeport East would like to hear from you. Freeport East are working with @ukpowernetworks and local authorities to develop a more detailed assessment of future power needs for commercial and industrial customers in coming years. With the growth in cleaner fuels such as green hydrogen, electric charging for HGVs and other transport, electrification of our ports as well as new manufacturing and logistics uses, there is forecast to be a significant growth in power needs in the Freeport East area. Our study will form the basis of an analysis to consider the case for new local power investment to ensure that local economic growth is not prevented by the lack of accessible grid infrastructure. We are also interested in hearing from any landowners, developers and businesses who may have plans for new renewable power generation facilities in and around the Harwich and Felixstowe areas. These types of investments will also form an important part of the overall picture of future energy demand and supply in the theses areas. The level of future energy growth was previously explored in our Green Transport Hub report developed together with the REA - see here: https://lnkd.in/eM6rahrw Ofgem, National Energy System Operator, ScottishPower Renewables, RWE, Lesley Wagland, Ivan Henderson, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, Suffolk County Council, Essex County Council, Tendring District Council, East Suffolk Council, Connected Places Catapult, Energy Systems Catapult

Freeport East was delighted to hold its Board meeting this month at The Range's state of the art 1.17 million sq. ft. distribution centre at Gateway 14, Stowmarket. As well as taking a tour of the new facility, the Board discussed latest updates on Freeport East progress. These included recent inward investment engagements, commencement of new skills and innovation programmes and ongoing work to develop a Transport Masterplan that will highlight the key transport investments required to maximise the region’s potential to support UK growth. On the decarbonisation side, ongoing assessments of local energy needs in #Harwich and #Felixstowe, development of an action plan to deliver the Green Freight Corridor initiative with East Midlands Freeport and driving greater progress in the rooftop solar market were all considered. As part of the visit, the Board also heard how the strategic location of at Gateway14 has enabled The Range to focus its logistics around the UK’s largest container port at Felixstowe, just 30 minutes away, with its unbeatable connections to the far East and Europe. Committed to delivering low carbon and net-zero solutions, The Range’s facility at Gateway 14 has earned a BREEAM excellent rating and, as a designated tax site within Freeport East, Gateway 14 brings significant benefits for new businesses like The Range, including tax reliefs, simplified customs arrangements and support for innovation and skills.
