The first-ever Manchester Health Film Festival has officially concluded, temporarily closing the book on the first chapter of the MHeFF story 🙂 The road to MHeFF24 was filled with triumphs, with 110 sold-out seats and 117 films submitted. Through the 18 selected films that were screened during the event, we addressed 14 different health conditions, with 8 filmmakers winning awards for their fantastic health films 😃 As a family, we experienced the power of cinema together, as we advocated for health awareness, broke down stigmas and created a foundation for open discourse around life-limiting health conditions. This was once a dream when I sat down having my chemotherapy treatment over 14 years ago 🙏🏾 I have learnt not to rush the process, stay humble and the chips will fall in place. I have always wondered who instigated the conversation, that sparked the mind of people to find a cure for cancer? To find the #chemotherapy treatment I went through, that put my cancer in remission. 🕵🏾♂️ I have always wondered how many failures of a treatment has to happen before a cure is found? I am alive today because someone encouraged a space for such conversations to be birth and for this I am eternally grateful. Now it’s our turn, Freshrb C.I.C. are creating a space to spark ideas, champion filmmakers, champion health organisaitions, build conversation and possibly birth future cures for health conditions, that still take the lives of many, both physical and mental. We are creating a space for future generations to look at us and say we left the world a better place. 🥰 This is why the Manchester Health Film Festival exists, to play its own role to build engagement with health themes that affect our cities here in the UK.
