As a social work charity, everything we do aims to make life better for children who need a social worker.

About us

Frontline is England’s largest social work charity. Everything we do aims to make life better for children who need a social worker, to help keep them safe from harm and to give them every possible chance to fulfil their potential. This is why, through our Frontline programme, we’re recruiting and teaching a new, diverse generation of social workers specialising in child protection. And why, through our leadership programmes we’re working with sector leaders to develop their leadership skills and create environments that allows social workers to thrive. Through our Fellowship (alumni network), we’re inspiring our social workers to turn their insight into innovations and advocate for children and families. And we’re challenging what people think about social work and social workers so people can see just how vital and transformational this work is. At Frontline, we are improving social work today to change the lives of children and families tomorrow. Social change takes social work. Children and families depend on it.

  • For the last 11 years we have developed excellent practice, leadership and innovation in children’s social work. However, we know that there’s more that we can do to ensure better outcomes for all children at risk of harm. With this in mind, we’ve developed our 2025-28 strategy which sets out how we will achieve this over the next three years. As our chief executive, Mary Jackson, shares: “The development of a new strategy offers an excellent opportunity to take stock and assess whether we are doing everything we can to achieve our mission. I am delighted that we are now in a position to launch our new 2025-28 strategy, which sets out how we plan to work differently with professionals to better protect all children at risk of harm.” Read more about our strategy🔗https://bit.ly/3QymSGx

Earlier last week, our second cohort completed the Step Forward programme. Step Forward is our 12 month leadership development programme for social workers in the early stages of their career. Over the past year, fellows have explored their leadership values and styles, as well as topics such as systemic inequality and active allyship. It was so great to hear fellows' reflections of the programme. One aspect that really stood out was how the programme empowered them to be more confident as leaders and social workers, supporting children and families. Thank you to The Garfield Weston Foundation for funding the programme. Once again, a huge congratulations to everyone who has completed Step Forward. We’re looking forward to welcoming our third cohort at the end of the month!

  • On Wednesday evening we brought together some of our social workers, partners, supporters and friends for the first Frontline Presents… event with the wonderful John Burnham. At the event, John, creator of the social graces and a systemic psychotherapist with 50 years experience working with children, young people and families, explored the ongoing and evolving relevance of social graces for social work in 2025. If you’re new to the social graces, this is an influential tool which explores aspects of social and personal identity such as race, gender, religion and age that have an effect on an individual’s privilege and power in society. The social graces are so important for social workers, as they help them build a greater understanding of their own identity, as well as the lived experience of each family they work with. During the event, we also took the opportunity to present John with a Frontline Award for Outstanding Contribution to Children and Families - a well deserved recognition for his incredible work, dedication to the sector and the impact he has had on children and families. A massive thank you to BT Group for hosting us, to Niketa Sanderson-Gillard for leading an insightful interview with John, and for an amazing question-and-answer session, as well as to everyone who attended. Don’t forget you can join us in celebrating amazing social workers and young people with lived experience by submitting a nomination for the Frontline Awards 2025. 🔗https://bit.ly/4jhCuLW

  • We’re excited to announce that, in partnership with the Department for Education (DfE), we’ve developed new online learning modules based on the skills taught on the Pathways programme. After hearing the news that the Pathways programme was ending, we wanted to ensure that valuable resources continued to support leaders in children’s social work. So, we were thrilled when DfE asked us to develop these modules.   These modules are live and are completely free! They’re designed to continue to help leaders in children’s social work to develop their leadership skills and create positive outcomes for the children they support. If you were hoping to join the Pathways programme but didn’t have the chance to, these modules provide an opportunity to explore the key skills that leaders developed through the programme. 🔗https://lnkd.in/efKbAFSA
