Last night, I had the pleasure of sitting down with two exited founders-turned-investors and a startup founder raising their seed round. During the conversation, the founder asked a great question... “What should I include in my investor updates?” One of the investors shared a simple but powerful framework - The Good, The Bad, and The Ask. The founder looked intrigued, so the investor elaborated... The Good Highlight what’s going well - key achievements, milestones hit, or positive outcomes since the last update. Share the wins that build momentum. The Bad Be transparent. Talk about challenges, roadblocks, and areas where things aren’t going as planned. Investors value honesty - it helps them understand where their support is needed most. The Ask This is your opportunity to tell your investors how they can help. Whether it’s an introduction, advice, or feedback, be specific and actionable. This simple framework ensures your updates are informative and build trust and confidence between founders and investors. Regular, structured updates show that you’re thoughtful, proactive, and committed to transparency - qualities investors truly value in a founder.
