We're delighted that our Chief Executive Officer, John Smith, has been made an OBE in the King's New Year Honours List for services to the rail freight industry. John has driven the growth of GBRf, one of the country’s leading rail freight providers, since it was formed in 1999. In addition to his leadership of GB Railfreight, John is a trustee of the Settle & Carlisle Railway Trust and has been at the forefront of GBRf raising over £1m for charitable causes including Alzheimer’s Society, Prostate Cancer UK, Headway and current partner, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. On hearing of his award, John said: “I am hugely surprised, honoured and thrilled to be recognised in the New Year Honours. It’s something I could never have considered when I began my career on the railway. This award is a recognition of the efforts of everyone who has worked at GB Railfreight over the last 25 years to whom I am hugely grateful.”

🚂 GBRf has secured a four year contract extension with Aggregate Industries UK to move materials from Bardon Hill and the Isle of Grain to some of the UK's biggest infrastructure projects. 🏗️This relationship has been forged over a decade and will involve GBRf locomotives carrying north of 5 million tonnes of materials over the duration of the contract. 🏠The 600k tonnes of cement move annually will be crucial in supplying the construction industry and also helping the Government hit it's 1.5m housing target by the end of this parliament. 🌍These services will help the UK achieve it's net-zero commitment along with reducing road traffic across the nation.
