Generations Working Together
Non-profit Organization Management
The nationally recognised centre of excellence supporting the development and integration of intergenerational work.
About us
GWT was established in 2007 as the Scottish Centre for Intergenerational Practice and became a registered Scottish Charitable Organisation in 2015. GWT’s vision is to live in a Scotland where different generations are more connected, and everyone has the opportunity to build relationships that help to create a fairer society. Our mission is to develop, expand and improve intergenerational practice. By intergenerational practice we mean projects, activities or events where people of different generations who might not otherwise meet each other do things together in positive and creative ways. Intergenerational practice includes any activities which remove and break down barriers between the generations. GWT provides a range of training opportunities, a yearly programme of meetings and thematic events and a national conference. Our programme of work involves facilitating 18 local networks across Scotland, three thematic networks (Ageism, Intergenerational Housing & Research), pilot projects and active partnerships in academic research. Next year our intergenerational week campaign gets very exciting as we go global. GWT lead the campaign in partnership with country leads from Wales, England & Northern Ireland. Next year we will see another 8 countries getting involved from as close as Ireland and Spain to further afield in America, Mexico and Australia.

Great to see Vintage Vibes, one of our 2024 excellence award winners for Evaluating Impact, being recognised by the First Minister, John Sweeney MSP. https://lnkd.in/eFzaZZBb?
“Vintage Vibes is an absolutely joyful project which brings older people together with younger people to tackle the issues of loneliness and isolation that exist within our communities. What I heard from listening to those involved is that sense of improvement in their wellbeing; it brings happiness and connection within communities, and helps people feel they are making a contribution to society. Vintage Vibes is a good preventative intervention that helps to boost the resilience, capacity and strength of individuals – it’s a really strong model and is a lovely example of how we can combat social isolation and loneliness and build stronger communities.” First Minister of Scotland, John Swinney We had a very special visitor pop by this week.
