The Financial Times has highlighted Genie as one of 3 top legal AI firms in the UK! We now support over ~120,000 people to transform their legal workflows. "Much of the work is routine" shared Rafie Faruq, Genie AI CEO, so in-house lawyers are happy to be relieved of it: “They don’t want to write boring contracts. They want to work on higher-value deals.” "At Genie AI, we empower corporations, especially in manufacturing and construction, to handle more of their legal processes internally." He added, “My recommendation to big law firms is not to bother too much with generative AI. They are being paid for their human expertise, not speed,” The market for contract writing in other companies is also far larger than law firms alone. Legal departments are often flooded with internal demands to sign off deals with clients and suppliers, and have been tasked with driving efficiencies with AI. Genie AI is also uniquely and proudly model-agnostic in this space, utilizing a combination of Anthropic and OpenAI, as well as our own proprietary models to deliver an optimal experience to our users. Today Genie AI was featured by the FT first among the 3 leading legal AI companies in the UK, who collectively raised over £100m last year (link in comments). It was great to be quoted in the article, though I wanted to clarify my comment about AI. I think the companies that win this year are those who are Agentic-AI-native. What do I mean by this? Agentic AI, much like Artificial General Intelligence, is a loosely defined term. A recent whitepaper by Google (link in the comments) described Agents as: "The combination of reasoning, logic and access to external information that are all connected to a Generative AI model invokes the concept of an Agent". I would go a step further in saying Agents can autonomously make plans of action and execute them with real time access to their environment. For business executives getting their daily legal work done, or lawyers working on legal documents, this can be hugely beneficial because they work with a range of very specific tools. In a document editor alone, there are hundreds of buttons and functions many people use every day. Agents can do trees or chains of such actions, such as with "Tree of thought" rather than just "Chain of thought" based on very simple instructions from us. And in future, they will be proactive not just reactive. For Genie, we just happened to have spent 7 years building a fully docx-compatible, real-time collaborative, privacy-aware editor for legal contracting. So having Agentic Assistance for business executives and lawyers when you're in the weeds formatting documents or reviewing alternative clauses can be tremendously useful. And our free tier is very generous so give it a go (link in the description!). All this might sound scary, and I too am concerned about the direction of AI, the risks and the impact on jobs. Recently I had the honour of talking at the amazing Bingham Riverhouse | B Corp alongside Sama Trinder (photo in the next image). We discussed how Keir Starmer is implementing all 50 of Matt Clifford's recommendations in his fantastic AI Opportunities Action Plan. A lot of it is focused on building more UK data centres, but I was asked at Bingham about the environmental impact of such data centres, and I must admit I didn't have a great answer.
